  1. 76.9 is the warmest month I see at Brookhaven National labs. Central Park has had numerous 80 and above
  2. I was a kid way before 1994 and growing up the summers were cooler than now but also dryer. I think there is much more storm activity now than then. I find it more interesting now.
  3. It is the hottest time of the year and we are in a heatwave. At least my pool temperature is warm, it won't be long until it's to cool to go in.
  4. Virginia has quite a variation from north to south. Areas of northern Virginia, such as Dulles airport, have always been fairly close to NYC temperatures, at least in the colder months. The summer months down there are hotter.
  5. The past 20 years in our area are milder, wetter, more snow and stormier. I actually like it better.
  6. Yes all areas have risen but nighttime temperatures fall so much more in rural areas. I should add, especially on quiet nights with no wind.
  7. NYC average annual temperature in the past 120 years has gone up 3.6 degrees.
  8. Lets not forget the heat island affect, especially when it comes to night time temperatures. NYC has had a skyscraper boom in the past 10-15 years. That concrete simply does not allow the heat to escape at night.
  9. So in 50 years the average dew point temperature at Islip has gone from 64 to about 66-67. It does look like we have been in a high trend for the past 9 years. Before 2010 it doesn't look like a big change.
  10. Hanna is now a hurricane, first one of the season.
  11. Hanna is becoming more impressive looking while Gonzalo doesn't even look tropical.
  12. My high temperature this month is 96 and the low 63. I have had 3.78 inches of rain. Central Park is about 3 degrees above normal so far this month.
  13. .10 of an inch between yesterday and last night but over a 1/2 inch this morning. We needed it, been missing most of the heavy rain.
  14. Only received a tenth of an inch of rain between yesterday and last night. In the past hour I have gotten a 1/2 inch.
  15. After 5 days in a row of 90 or above here, only hit 86 today.
  16. I think Laguardia and Newark temperatures during heat waves are the highest around, especially night temperatures. They are open concrete and tarmac and Newark surrounded by chemical and industrial like plants. Kennedy not as bad because of the ocean and smaller airports are not surrounded by as much concrete.
  17. One good storm that creates some upwelling and temperatures on the surface will drop quite a bit.
  18. Very slight west wind here, no sea breeze to be found. Yes the temperature has dropped from a high of 96 to 93 but that is only because of cloud cover.
  19. 94 degrees here, sea breeze out to lunch. Light west wind, our hottest wind on long Island.
  20. It may not affect JFK as much but as NYC keeps growing with bigger and higher skyscrapers, I'm sure the maximum night temperatures will be higher. Heat island affect is so prevalent on nights like tonight.
  21. Down to 85 here, not feeling that bad out thanks to sea breeze.
