  1. Could be some good swells at the beaches, maybe some overwash.
  2. Yea and can make some difference on calm nights.
  3. I didn't make myself clear. I meant last nights low, not the day before.
  4. Yesterday may have been a good example what the foliage in Central Park does to its temperatures. Keeps day time highs lower and night time lows higher. With good radiational cooling last night Newark got down to the low 50s while Central Park stayed in the high 50s. Meanwhile yesterdays highs were the low 70s in Newark and upper 60s in Central Park.
  5. On clear chilly nights with no wind, the difference in temperatures can be impressive. Not only the difference between city and rural but even where a temperature sensor is located. For example, I have a vantage vue located about 20 ft. off the ground and the temperature is 54. About 30 feet away is a vantage pro sensor 6 ft. off the ground, which is what the NWS says is the correct height, and that reading is 51.
  6. Temperatures dropping fairly quickly away from the urban heat islands. Down to 44 at Gabreski Airport on Long Island, 46 in Monticello Ny, Brookhaven Labs on Long Island down to 48. My temperature down to 52.
  7. 46 here this morning. First 40s of the season.
  8. I looked up Newark on Wunderground and it says high temperature 70 but it also says maximum wind speed 76mph.
  9. If the clouds dissipate tonight, it will be the best chance for scattered frost in some of those northern valley areas, such as in the Catskills.
  10. When I checked the Newark readings at 4, it showed 70 degrees and the wind NW at 76mph. Now the temperature at Newark is 67 degrees. So I am wondering if the 70 degree reading was incorrect. It certainly seemed like an outlier temperature reading as I checked numerous local stations in the area at 4PM and the highest I could find was Caldwell NJ at 67.
  11. Yea, made it to 66 here. Most current temperatures in the area are in the low to mid 60s.
  12. Most of the area easily staying below 70 today.
  13. Yea, projected lows last night were higher than expected thanks to overcast skies.
  14. Brookhaven Labs on Long Island already down to 54 degrees, 61 here.
  15. Yea Long Island missed out on some of the heavy rain but still got plenty. I had about 8.5 inches in July, 7 inches in August and 7.5 this month.
  16. Down to 52.3 here, 55 now in Central Park. Seems to be a little chillier than what was forecast this A.M.
  17. Would not be surprised to see some frost in the northern and western areas over the next day or two. Some temperatures in the 30s this morning in the Catskills.
  18. 53 degrees here and still falling slowly.
  19. Yea probably the case in a lot of areas. My area missed a lot of the thunderstorm activity that other areas would get.
  20. At least in my area the amount of rain is a little deceiving. The reason I say that is we seem to get it all at once and then nothing for weeks. It is not like it has been raining day after day. My grass has actually turned brown in spots and needed water numerous times in the past few months.
  21. Yea it was a beautiful day as far as visibility. The NW wind was about 15-30 mph.
  22. I went up to the top of the lighthouse today. First time, great view and very windy.
  23. If it stays clear all night and tomorrows mild air doesn't start infiltrating tonight, this could be my chilliest night of the early fall season. Down to 58 degrees already.
  24. There are reasons why it is cyclical but it definitely does seem to be cyclical even on a more localized level. For example, Long Island and New England got hammered with storms in the 1950s to early 60s. Meanwhile not a hurricane has crossed the shore of Long Island in over 35 years. Look at Florida, after the incredibly active 2005 season it went a record 10 years without a major hurricane hitting it.
