  1. I've been reading on another forum about a potential snow threat around April 3rd. Think Toronto might break it's snow drought?
  2. This. Snowstorms is totally over-reacting. 2011-12 was a BUST with block capitals. Horrible, near record warm December. Compare that to this year where we not only had snow for the run-up to Christmas, but snow ON Christmas Eve and Day, followed by an epic cold snap. This winter, according to Doug Gillham of TWN, averaged out almost dead on normal in the temperature department, maybe slightly below. You simply cannot compare this winter to those of 2011-12 and 2001-02.
  3. Clearly this run of the model is out to lunch - it has Toronto getting hit by snow.
  4. As I suspected, it looks like this next storm is going to miss Toronto. I have to wonder if Toronto has seen its last snow of the season? It seems very clear that a negative NAO and AO are not conducive to heavy snowfall in southern and central Ontario.
  5. Man, if I could get just one - one! - of these storms to hit me in Toronto I'd be happy. Even if it's just 2-4". Honestly, this city seemingly has a snow shield built around it!
  6. No kidding! One Facebook weather group was calling for 2-4" in Toronto by Friday - we haven't seen anything! I don't know where they get their info from - no model was calling for that amount in the snow-hole, otherwise known as Toronto.
  7. The Euro model doesn't seem to have been all that good this year. Just a couple of days ago it was hinting at almost 17" of snow for my area between the 3rd and 13th...doesn't look like we'll see much of anything!
  8. Honestly, the average yearly snowfall must have gone up a lot for cities like Boston and NYC since he turn of the millennium. It just seems that we see more big coastal snowstorms than Gulf and Texas lows these days.
  9. Congrats to all of you guys. As I expected, it was a bust for Toronto. We barely saw any snow out of this.
  10. I'm surprised arctic sea ice is so low when you consider how cold it has been in the Arctic. Forecast for Resolute is below. http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/nu-27_metric_e.html
  11. I wish we could get a summer with sunshine and temperatures in the mid 70s on a regular basis. Problem is that when it's a cool summer, it's usually rainy as well.
  12. I definitely remember the May 23,1992 cold front. It was the day before my 12th birthday, for which I received a new baseball glove. It was so cold on the 25th (Monday back at school) that it was difficult to use the glove to play catch in the school yard as it would soften up due to the cold.
  13. This. I believe Pinatubo resulted in a number of weather anomolies in the early 90s. Some believe that the snowy winters of 1992-93 and 1993-94 were also partly a result of the volcano, although the effects of volcanoes, I gather, are generally felt most in the summer months. There's an interesting book called "Volcano weather" that was published in 1983 which describes 1816, the true year of no summer. Interestingly, that book was written asa result of a volcano that had occurred in Mexico in the spring of 1982, with the author opining that the chilly summer of 1982 was partly a result of this.
  14. Just wanted to drop in and congratulate you guys in Alaska and the yukon who are having such an amazing winter. Has been largely a dud for us out east! Amazing pics by the way!
