  1. Yes, ranking up with 2011/12, 2001/02, 1931/32, 1889/90.
  2. What time period is this for? I'm hearing the Euro weeklies now see cold by about February 10?
  3. This storm is starting to look like a hot mess...a dog's breakfast.
  4. Interesting that this could potentially be the third Saturday in a row with a storm. I'm rooting for the Euro - 8" sounds pretty good, although it would likely be wet snow, and thus brutal to shovel.
  5. I remember that storm - was 12 years old. Originally they'd been calling for 4-6" and we ended up with about 17" at my place. Just an amazing storm.
  6. Wow, this doesn't look too bad for Toronto. Despite the lame January we're having temperature wise, we may actually end up with above average snowfall for the season if this keeps up.
  7. Great picture. Unfortunately, it looks like today could be it for the next 2-3 weeks in terms of traditional winter weather - although we could get some snow.
  8. Toronto received close to 7" in total from yesterday's storm - not bad. How did Buffalo and Rochester do?
  9. It really is hard to believe how many outlets got their winter forecasts wrong this year. The only two that got it right were Environment Canada and the National Weather Service, from what I can see.
  10. Three cars were stuck on my street. Turns out that, not only did they not have snow tires...they had rear wheel drive, meaning the cars kept fish tailing. There's really no way I can put a "positive spin" on that situation.
  11. Snow really coming down now. I'd estimate I've got about 4 or 5" down. Flake size is bigger now.
  12. Yes, it was coming down quite heavily for a bit. Slowed down a bit now. Hopefully we get a deformation band or something. I'm up to about 3".
  13. Hopefully this is a good sign for me up here in Toronto. They're calling for 6" here.
  14. Take a look at the data for January 1950 in Toronto. Bear in mind that this followed a cold November. Lots of flip flopping that month...this month kind of looks similar. https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_data/daily_data_e.html?hlyRange=1953-01-01|2013-06-13&dlyRange=1937-11-01|2013-06-13&mlyRange=1937-01-01|2013-06-01&StationID=5097&Prov=ON&urlExtension=_e.html&searchType=stnName&optLimit=yearRange&StartYear=1840&EndYear=2017&selRowPerPage=25&Line=61&searchMethod=contains&txtStationName=Toronto&timeframe=2&Day=1&Year=1950&Month=1
  15. I gather it's now looking to be very warm for the last week of January? That's quite a flip, is it not? Wasn't it looking very cold for the same time period not so long ago?
  16. Joe is now pointing to the JMA (Japanese) model to back up his opinion that winter is going to roar back.
  17. You have to wonder if Ryan Maue left Weatherbell because of disagreements with the other staff members regarding climate change, or at least their style of weather forecasting.
  18. This winter seems to have a lot of similarities to that of 1949-50. That winter saw a cold November, and a January with some pretty wild swings. https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_data/daily_data_e.html?hlyRange=1953-01-01|2013-06-13&dlyRange=1937-11-01|2013-06-13&mlyRange=1937-01-01|2013-06-01&StationID=5097&Prov=ON&urlExtension=_e.html&searchType=stnName&optLimit=yearRange&StartYear=1840&EndYear=2017&selRowPerPage=25&Line=61&searchMethod=contains&txtStationName=Toronto&timeframe=2&Day=1&Year=1950&Month=1
  19. Actually, this past decade wasn't too bad. In February 2013, we saw one of the biggest snowstorms on record for Toronto. Winter 2013-2014 was the coldest in 20 years. February 2015 was the coldest February since at least 1840 (when records began) in Toronto. 2017 saw the coldest New Years period since the late 60s. 2018 saw the coldest October-December period in Toronto since 1980. January and February 2019 saw decent amounts of snow.
  20. A big pattern flip would seem to be on the horizon...from January 17th on it's looking colder than average, at least in Ontario. If we get two solid months of winter, taking us to mid-March, on top of the coldest November since 1976 (for Toronto), I'd say this winter could be more than salvaged.
  21. That would be ugly. The latest Canadian model is calling for heavy freezing rain in YYZ (Toronto) on Sunday morning. The GFS gives us even more ice pellets and freezing rain. Will be an interesting storm, for sure.
  22. Looking like there may be an inch or two of snow on Tuesday. Hoping it does cool down the week of the 6th. The Weather Network's winter forecast looks to be in trouble - they've been calling for an exceptionally cold winter for Ontario, Quebec and the eastern Prairies.
