  1. That’s unbelievable to me. IN is limiting hospital procedures and is nearing/at hospital capacity but has businesses open 100% capacity? No even talk of limiting capacity or closures?
  2. Temps are also getting into the mid-upper 30s now so it may be mix rain/snow when it does hit the ground.
  3. There were palm tree forests at the Arctic Circle when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Just sayin....
  4. Those areas did well with the upslope favored events over the last couple of weeks. The lake effect/upper low system from a week or so ago for OH/W PA also produced a ton of upslope snow down to NC.
  5. I think Worldometers tries to backdate those backlogs to the proper day(s) but unsustainable nonetheless.
  6. If you mean 2009-10 it was a moderate Nino with a strong Subtropical jet, which is great for places south of Philly. 2010-11 was a moderate Nina I believe with strong blocking, which was a much better winter from Philly on north. DC had much less from what I know.
  7. Wow-AZ with over 12000 cases today? A lot of that must be backlog?
  8. Urban heat island and coastal affects already showing up this evening. Down to about 28 in my area but on the LI Sound/South shore and in NYC still in the mid to upper 30s.
  9. Shame. This could’ve been a big snow event here with a little better interaction within the trough and some more space from the last storm.
  10. PA again with a horrible number, over 11000 new cases today and 134 deaths. And it seems very spread out through the state, not just the cities (Philadelphia hasn't even reported yet on Worldometers ). They will definitely be under severe strain soon if not already. And that will affect the NYC metro area for sure with the number of commuters/travelers back and forth.
  11. Yep, tragic. It was quite dire here in the NYC area through much of April-trucks stationed outside of every hospital to hold bodies, 900-1000 deaths per day just in this state and corpses placed on Hart Island (essentially where you are buried in NYC when you have no relatives/next of kin) because of lack of space to put them as well as warehouses. Sad to know that some other parts of the country are likely headed to something similar. Vaccines can't get here soon enough.
  12. Saturday usually drops off at least a little, but we're over 2200 deaths and almost 200k new cases. As for the hospitalizations, falling numbers are likely due to stricter admitting standards in many states-people who would be admitted a few months ago are being sent home. Here in NY we're back at the April peak for new cases (granted back then a huge number of cases were likely undiagnosed). Several family members-cousins, aunts and uncles of mine either have it now or had it recently. Luckily no serious outcomes yet, they've resembled bad colds or the flu so far.
  13. I don’t recall it being a bust. It was never supposed to be very good here and it favored I-90 for days. I had 2-3” maybe from the rotting CCB.
  14. Nina Pacific run garbage which means cutters and the huge SE ridge. Dec into early Jan is our shot IMO for this winter, and this probably ends up as a strong Nina. The system behind this one could've had a shot but looks like too much wave interference along with this one not being far enough gone to work. Even the 10-11 Nina winter pretty much ended after the 1/27/11 storm. Nina winters are front loaded here.
  15. Will it be dark enough to actually see Jupiter/Saturn at conjunction here? I notice them getting closer every evening but also sunset around the same time.
  16. Probably COVID fatigue. Weather wise not much has changed down there. The hypocrisy of elected leaders like Gavin Newsom doesn’t help either. LA should hopefully go down fairly soon due to the new restrictions.
  17. Yep, not good. We can really take off quickly if it catches fire in the NYC metro again.
  18. They’ve always been way more favored for snow than our area. Been pointed out many times how they can benefit from marginal setups and late-developers like this one seems to be. The only real setup where we’re favored are mod-strong suppressed El Niño’s like 15-16.
  19. The $900B plan stands a good chance at passing IMO. Not what’s needed but hopefully enough to stave off doom for a few months.
  20. We’ve been fairly careful here-areas of increases but not crazy yet. We can definitely erupt at any time though if people become more lax. Restaurants/bars should close again here IMO.
  21. FL lighting up again as expected with restrictions dropping. Over 10k cases today and over 100 deaths. NY is headed up as well. CA over 15k yesterday. As some states in the Midwest subside somewhat other states are surging again, and they’re the big population states.
  22. And just under 200k new cases.
  23. Encouraging that the measures taken in Europe are reducing the daily new cases there and will reduce the death tolls soon. Hopefully the same can happen here but the holidays, fatigue and “the vaccine’s coming so we can relax”, and lack of National strategy might shoot us in the foot. Hopefully not. Europe had more centralized and strict measures taken.
  24. Seems like the worst this time is in western NY so far but it can take off down here very fast also.
