We don't see many 980 mb tropical storms. The visible loop sure looks like a hurricane. Another recon was on the way, but there was no way they'd get down there in time so they turned around.

This system is impressive. It appears to be rapidly strengthening as it is about to move inland.

I was just thinking that this is clearly a TD. It'll be interesting to see how quickly this can rev up before reaching the northeast Yucatan coast.

The 12z Euro has Rene meandering around just north of the MDR, which leads to the new system getting sucked up into the weakness, so no threat to the Caribbean.

12z GFS has a rapidly-strengthening hurricane in the eastern Caribbean in a week. I noticed last night's Euro had the system there, but much weaker.

The top of the sister street where it meets the main avenue. Across the avenue is a dumpy mobile home area. Many of the big, old trees in that area look like the ones in this photo. Many of the crappy homes got ripped up, too.

Corner of the street entrance, opposite side. This tree was broken off at the ground and tossed 30 ft. Interesting photo.... all the trees along the right side of the street are still standing while all the trees on the left side were blown down.

I just got power back Thursday morning, ten days after the storm. There are still 9k people in the CR area without power. My Mediacom tv/internet is still out (could be up to another week), but my neighbor has a different service, which is working, and she is letting me use her wifi. It has been a long couple weeks. I did a lot of tree cleanup in my yard and surrounding yards. It was exhausting, but there was nothing to do after dark so I got a lot of sleep. It was quite a storm, likely something I'll never see again. It was amazing how it just kept raging for 30-40 minutes. The worst damage I saw, as someone posted earlier in the thread, is in sw Cedar Rapids, a bit over a mile sw of my house, but everyone got hit. I'll post a few photos of my neighborhood when I get my fast internet connection back.

NWS just issued a warning for Cedar Rapids, even with the line two counties away.

This should be interesting, at the very least. I'm just dreading the damage that will be done to my garden. This line is really racing eastward.

Obviously, it's a long way out, but this morning's Euro has a modest system traversing the Caribbean, then it begins to turn more nw and strengthen at the end of the period as the eastern US trough erodes the subtropical ridge.

The gulf system certainly has the appearance of a disturbance that is destined to become a tropical storm before moving into Texas.

Earlier today, Amphan was tracking more northward, well east of the Euro, but the track has been nnw for the last several hours. -
The Euro and UK now take the Bay of Bengal system a bit farther west, at least scraping the Indian coast with the center. The GFS still has a n/nne track into Bangladesh.

Models are showing a powerful cyclone hitting the northern Bay of Bengal coast next week. There has not been one in that area in quite a long time. That area used to be ground zero for huge death totals back in the 20th century.
