  2. .11 so far from a t storm. Now under a severe thunderstorm warning till 415. Awaiting its arrival.
  3. A few claps of thunder last eve...no rain and it got windy.
  4. The farmer that rents out our land just planted his field corn yesterday. he's running about 15 days behind schedule. Hope we get rain very soon
  5. Remember those Frost and freeze warnings a few weeks ago? Well here is the result of those. This place is in Dauphin County a few miles from Gratz and about 10 miles as the crow flies from me. Shame. On the bright side and we were blessed this year we picked about 30 quarts of strawberries so far. We sold about 25qt. We had nothing that big to cover our strawberries when those warnings went out and we did have frost and temps down into the upper 20's. We were lucky here. And that 3in. rain came at the right time at the end of April follow by a lot of sun in May to lead to such an abundant harvest ,thank God! Blyler Fruit Farm dertoSnpos0uf700yamg3g hmPM1a198f858m176l1t3a68a0 0 0iM7t 0: · It is with great sadness that we announce there will be no strawberries for 2023. The frost and freeze conditions on numerous mornings in May have ruined the blossoms and small fruit.
  6. I spent about 11 hours Total on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning irrigating to get moisture back in the soil. I have 2 6ft towers with 3 sprinklers running off a 5hp pump. Drawing water from the creek. Today I took the rototiller through. Last week the ground was that hard like cement, the rototiller wanted to skip over the top of the compacted soil. Now with moisture back in the soil that was a game changer. I also used 3.5 gal of gas to irrigate. We need rain bad.
  7. Come on your ac needs a workout. It will seize up, and rust away if it isn't used.
  8. We need the rain, just like we need a Celtics win.
  9. And being early this year the (lack of rain) should have us all concerned.
  10. Yes its a pain to set up. Then you gotta move sprinklers around. Get muddy, dirty, wet and sometimes soaked doin this.
  11. I'm gonna have to set up the pump to pump water out of the creek to irrigate my garden.
  12. We can only hope. Beginning to think that this might be a summer that won't happen. WE need heat and high dewpoints to maybe trigger thunderstorms to get some rain.
  13. 37 was the low. No wonder it seems like my tomato plants aren't growing. Too cold at night.
  14. Gonna mow this morning, Really gonna question mowing next week. I see the brown grass making a return where it usually does when it turns dry. But when it turns brown its usually July August...not May. 42 this morning.
  15. Wow no rain according to NWS for the foreseeable future. This could get bad for the agriculture interests.
  16. Um that didn't happen with me. But my grandfather did that. and his generation. He always told the stories about it.
  17. I hope I'm not the oldest. Is there perks for being a senior weather enthusiast?? Asking for a friend.
  18. .CLIMATE... -- Changed Discussion -- Monthly rainfall totals are below to well normal across central PA particularly over the middle and lower Susquehanna Valley. Current monthly total rainfall through 5/22 at Harrisburg (0.19"/-2.53") and Williamsport (0.44"/-2.31") would rank as the driest May on record. Mounting rainfall deficits and potential drought concerns will need to be monitored heading into June and Summer 2023.
  19. I'll be 65 in July. My mind says I'm young, my knees say the hell you are. If it basically wasn't the problem with my knees I'd be good.
  20. Probably in the mid 90's we went camping up to Sullivan County at Almost Heaven Campground for Memorial Day weekend in a pop-up. We left here from home the temp was a hot 92. Well on the way up we listened to the weather and a cold front was going to come through later on Saturday. Well we weren't prepared for that so we scrambled and went to yard sales to find winter clothes. The temp when we woke up on Sunday morning dropped to 26 and the water hose to the pop up was froze. and the temp only got into the low 60's the rest of the weekend up there. A not an enjoyable weekend to say the least up there.
