  1. I'll list events that busted in our favor. Some were major. Sorry if some have been mentioned already. 1/23/87: This was the first of 2 big storms to hit out region. Most forecast we're for 2-4/3-6 with the possibility of changing to rain. Instead a lot of areas saw a foot or more with temps falling through the 20's 2/20/79: Blizzard of 79. Most forecast were for a decent size storm but not for 20 inches. 2/12/83: Blizzard of 83. Same as above. Amounts over 2ft. 12/8/13: Already mentioned by Fozz 1/9/96: This was 2 days after the blizzard. A disturbance/clipper produced 3-6. Forecast was for a few flurries with some areas getting a dusting. 1/4/2002: A clipper overproduced and some got up 5-6 inches. Forecast was for C-2. Late December 1990. I think it was the 28th or 29th. Forecast was for some snow but this storm over produced. 4-8 inches in a 4-6 hour period. 12/7/2007: A clipper gave some areas up to 6 inches. 1/25/2000: already mentioned 1/30/2000: northern suburbs got 4-8 when forecast was for 1-3 then mix. 2/12/2006: an awesome deform band produced amounts up to 16-20 inches in areas like Columbia, Randallstown, Reisterstown etc. No forecast called for more than 10-12. Most forecast were for 5-10. 12/25/2002: northern suburbs got 5-7. Not well forecasted. Here are some more without details 3/9/99 2/25/2007 to some extent 1/10/99 to some extent 11/11/87 Probably forgetting a few more.
  2. True winter day. We just dont get enough if these. Love the cloud cover with snow on the ground.
  3. He's probably thinking of the event that followed the front a couple days later. Low pressure stayed a bit to the south producing 3-6 over the region. A few spots may have gotten 8. It happened on a Monday night into Tuesday morning. Extremely cold temps.
  4. Went with 10.0 for final total for event. 10.5 may be slightly ambitious.
  5. I really don't understand why BWI is the official reporting station for Baltimore. I get that you don't have as much as an UHI issue but the airport is over 10 miles south if the city. Are there any other major cities that use a location that far away and south no less. You wouldn't want to use the inner harbor for obvious reasons but say a park in North Baltimore and you would get a truer representation especially in marginal events like yesterday's where every mile north you go means something. Aside from the airports NY uses Central Park. If the distance was reversed and let's say they used some location 10 miles due north of downtown that would probably be the Timonium area. Then the average would jump to 24 or so. Then that may be a little to high. You wouldn't use a location that far north so why use one that far south. An area like Roland Park would be a perfect location. Are airports mandatory to be recording stations? I guess thing even out in the long run but it seems most people from the city area received more than 1.6.
  6. Then why should we give a shit when you tell us how wonderful it is in Vermont?
  7. Total was 10.5. Got really windy so accurate measurements were difficult during part 2 overnight. May have been more because it snowed until 3-3:30 but I'll go with 10.5. Have to see how that compares to area reports.
  8. Just starting to see the affects here of that band you're in now.
  9. Its blowing pretty good down here too. I see the band. 7 inches with afternoon snow, then about an inch of sleet/snow mix and then about 1.5 so far of snow on top of that. Total 9.5 as of now.
  10. Just about identical to here. Surpassed last years totals between today and Monday's system. This was a pretty formidable storm for our parts. Great way to kick off winter.
  11. Very nasty out. Getting a heavy sleety/snowy misty mix with visibility dropping. Added another half inch. Temps dropped back to 26.
  12. Hopefully everything cools back down quickly however us being further east it still may take a while. Hope the warm layer isn't too stubborn. We should be at all levels to snow by 10PM or so.
  13. Still holding on to snow barely. Same measurements here as you have.
  14. Dark skies. S+. Havent measure in a while but looks like 6. Temp 26.
