Roads caving in Gaithersburg. I see a lot of people are busting tonight and I probably will too but it’s nice to be sitting under this band. Feels a little lucky lol.

Accumulating on everything but the road right now in Gaithersburg. I stopped paying attention after two days ago when it became clear we didn't have a shot at the big jackpot of the other cities northeast, and am just enjoying the vibe of the snow. Might take a peek and see if what's on top of me is expected to stay for a while. Love getting a re-whitener for winter.

I have to say y'all... this is a fun as heck winter.

Seems like it's warmer than I expected today. Starting to get little puddles of water. Guess this will make refreeze a problem though.

When models killed our 2 feet of snow in favor of 8-12 with 4” of sleet this is why I kept smiling and telling people that it made me even more excited. I know big snow number is something we all love but the 2017 sleet storm converted me and I knew what was possible. This storm delivered beyond my imagination. Cars will be locked in glaciers for weeks. The world is white and frozen. I love this so much lol.

Lets get 3" and have MCPS shut down all week again after they don't open on Monday or Tuesday lol.

I don’t see how MCPS opens tomorrow either. Even in the Kentlands the ice and snow piles are huge and sidewalks still quite hazardous. Busses literally can’t drive many routes. this region is paralyzed.

I have a feeling it's not going to appreciably soften until mid february.

On reddit people were paying $450 for a full driveway.

MCPS is 100% going to be closed tomorrow. The real question is, do they open Monday? lol.

Having just driven to BWI from Gaithersburg, I can say that the Arterials are OK, though some country roads have huge snowdrifts in one lane and are down to a single lane. But neighborhood streets are wrecked. Even in my relatively well plowed neighborhood the sleet berms are 3-5 feet high and higher in some points, and the lanes are one car width wide. Busses can't turn in that and it's not melting anytime soon. I think we are shut down at MCPS til Monday. I just can't see any of these problems going away before then.

Looks like MCPS can’t even get to the busses at Shady Grove. They’ll be digging them out for a while. Hoping mcps closes all week, I think they will.

Just glad we didn't get freezing rain. Would have turned this hard situation into an impossible one.

So we waited to today to shovel and we are glad we did. It would have been back breaking either way but we cut the top into pieces like this, and they all VERY cleanly came loose from soft powder underneath. We then just tossed these sleet blocks aside and shoveled what was under. Laborious but not impossible.

Very, very glad I waited to shovel the snow. Our strategy for moving the glacier was to take a hammer and break the ice crust into very large pieces, and to lift those pieces and toss them aside. It actually worked really well. The sleet crust cleanly separates from the soft snow underneath which was easy to shovel.

Guess I am getting back into weather tracking again.

I have to say - decently impressed with the AI Euro. Had me at 10.2, I'm at 9.8 with the snow 10:1 ratio (if I'm counting sleet as snow, there's no sleet panel in the AI Euro)

Ending at 6” of snow, 3.8” of sleet in Gaithersburg. Couldn’t break 10” total but what a phenomenal sleet bomb. One I will always remember. Can’t wait see what this looks like tomorrow. Curious if I’ll get a few little stray ZR drizzle or extra sleet.
