Just went outside and the sleet drifts that have fallen off of roofs and are 1-2 feet deep are going to glaciate tonight and stay that way for days. I don’t think MCPS will open this week.

I don't know how most people will get places tomorrow. I just measured the sleet in the back and front of our townhome complex and lol... All of the sidewalks and parking lot coming out of people's garages are under 1.5' of sleet because it has all just flowed from the roof. Also, Gaithersburg right now and I am sitting at 3.6" of sleet on top of 6" of snow measured earlier. Just 0.4" to break double digits, don't know if I'll do it.

Looks like we are getting close to the end in Gaithersburg. Still probably a few hours but I see the back end of the shield on radar.

6" of Snow, 3.2" of sleet. Definitely going to make a run for 4 if these bands keep coming in, which would put me at 10"

6" snow, 2.5" sleet in Gaithersburg so far. I'm definitely breaking 3, and almost certainly will end somewhere around 4" if those returns west fall as sleet.

Yes yes I'm converting more of you. Would an epic 2' snowstorm have been insanely cool? Totally. But when will you next get to say you've been through what may be 4+" of sleet in a single day on top of warning level snow?

Unless of course we get a little ZR to glue it together. Its just pouring over the gutters like liquid.

Wave after wave of yellow returns in Gaithersburg. This is going to be a memorable storm y'all.

Revising my estimate. If trends continue I bet we go all week without school. This sleet and thick ice is going to mess things up to the extreme.

West side of Gaithersburg, and it sounds like we are dealing with the same amount of snow and sleet. And it's looking like we have quite a bit more to go. Yes, this stuff is HARD to shovel. Never been so happy to live in a development that does the shoveling for me.

This is the most intense sleeting of the storm so far in Gaithersburg. It's absolutely ridiculous. It's like a thunderstorm out there but sleet. All of the roads that have been plowed and the parking lot of my townhome complex is now white again but with billions of icy little beads. Go out there and try kicking it a little. It isn't like snow. It's literally like kicking beads. It moves almost in a liquid way. Its so cool. And models say I still have like 2" of this to fall, on top of the 1.8" sleet I already have.

Wait til 2 more inches fall and then it concretizes. What blows my mind is how cold it will be for an extended period of time.

I remember that too, and this is heading for twice as much sleet.

It is sleet STORMING out here in Gaithersburg. An absolute shellacking of a sleet downpour.

This is what I was trying to say yesterday. Sleet bombs, true ones, are RARE here and fun as heck. wait til you see people try to drive over the little bumps thinking it works the same as snow. we are gonna be locked in way more than people realize after this

1.3" of sleet so far. Also, don't look now, but Nam 3km and HRR still gives us like 2.5" more sleet. If that ends up being correct I'll end up with nearly 4" of sleet.

1.2” sleet total now. On top of 6” snow. Gaithersburg. Sleet rates slowed but picked up again. The whole plowed area is now white with sleet pellets.

Honestly my guess is Friday. But I am uncertain.

Really? I feel like Thursday is the earliest they'll open. They notoriously close at the slightest thing and with all of the metling, refreezing, and locked in cars with the extreme sleet, I could have sworn this would be protracted. But I guess the low snow total might make it more manageable.

I think it helps that my HOA shovels it for us haha.
