  1. I understand this is a highly liberal forum and that's what makes this a somewhat enjoyable conversation, but would you guys want a European/Canadian system ran by Donald Trump & Mike Pence? Or George Bush & Dick Cheney? In the last 40 years we've had Republican control of the Executive Branch for 24 of those. Our country loves the center-right with a relatively weak central government, that's why Trump won. Obama was fairly liberal and Trump winning was a reaction to that. Likewise Trump has some far-right beliefs that are going to cause a jump back to the left with a Biden win in November. Would you guys rather live in a world where we debate the coronavirus rules or a world where it doesn't matter because DC does whatever it wants? I personally believe Gov. Whitmer has gone too far, and likewise Gov. McMaster here has not gone far enough. Regardless I am glad we live in a country where this debate can be taken to Columbia or Lansing.
  2. I feel like I need my British girlfriend to come on here and explain these things to you guys lol. Really you guys have no idea how wealthy we are compared to just about every other country. It’s a hell of a combination of high incomes/low taxes/cheap imports that we have
  3. Ha we easily beat them. We’re considerably better off financially than those countries.
  4. We have the most competitive economy in the world, by far the highest standard of living for a major country. This has led to the second highest percentage of people with a bachelors degree in the world. Its certainly not perfect but we do live pretty damn good lives in this country. Honestly this thread needs to relax. Like damn guys Canada is right there if you guys don’t like it that much?
  5. He said I have made it apparent that I don’t view this as a big deal. Lol I mean come on I can’t fully do my job, have kept most dining to outdoor and wear a mask in public places. Just because I don’t think everything needs to be shutdown doesn’t mean I’m so hardcore anti-masker. We can have balance folks.
  6. Dude shut the hell up. I’ve said multiple times this is legit and continue to work from home. Also have worn a mask since March. Just because I don’t live my life in terror like you do doesn’t mean I’m not being precautious. But I choose to work from home, in Michigan it would be illegal for me to go in. That’s the whole problem. Quit watching MSNBC all day, you might actually learn something
  7. The courts ruled it unconstitutional. They could just pass resolutions instead of declaring executive orders? Just like how I should go to the store to buy milk instead of stealing my neighbor’s. Sure it’s more convenient to steal their milk, but probably not best.
  8. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdhhs/MI_Safe_Start_-_Restricted_Activities_by_Category_700916_7.xlsx That is incorrect. There is a Work From Home mandate. Here you can see all the restrictions Michigan has.
  9. How you can make this comment is staggering. Honestly it’s completely illegal what this woman is doing. Using emergency declarations when the legislature is not passing resolutions in order to control the activities of a population? Our corporate office is currently not allowed to be open due to her work from home mandate. We’re all taking precautions but to ban people from their office is wild. While the Southern states have gone too far in their complete openness during a pandemic, everyone should admit the same of Michigan with the powers this governor has wielded. IMO Ohio has handled this the best in the country from what I have heard
  10. I can assure you that no Southern states will do this.
  11. It's time to shut this down folks
  12. It’s what draws me to this forum. I’ve lived in SC for the duration of this so it’s hard for me to relate to the fear seen in a lot of the posts. There’s caution here, but everyone is going about their lives, just with a mask
  13. To say that you have to play "football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, wrestling, field hockey, boxing and martial arts with opponents" with a mask on is absurd. You'd decrease the oxygen levels by limiting the CO2 that is exhaled during sports. That sounds as dangerous as breathing in COVID. Also depriving teenagers of extra curricular activities they've done for years invites a lot of opportunity for drug and alcohol abuse as well as affects college prospects for the better athletes. Again too often reason continues to stray away in this crisis.
  14. Was reading the Detroit Free Press and see that good ole Gov. Whitmer is mandating masks for organized sports? I'm convinced this woman is insane lol. This is why I don't put much stock in what DC has done with the response to this pandemic, these governors can do whatever they want. Feel bad for all the Michiganders at this point, while being wide open sure has its downside, so does being incredibly restrictive. At some point I hope these Midwest states realize their plans are like painkillers, sure it'll help one thing, but it's going to have tons of side effects. Heck my one buddy who works at Ford R&D has been telling me that he plays golf 5 days a week and takes a vacation every two months just to get out of the state and be able to do regular things. It seems to be a common theme with friends and family in Michigan & Ohio, hardcore cabin fever over the restrictions
  15. That’s a hell of a low north of Lake Superior. Fall looks to be rearing it’s head for you guys
  16. I could absolutely kill for some Ohio weather in September. Currently 94 and muggy here at the house, yet I'm looking at the forecast and seeing 75/52 for Friday up there. My hoodies are going to be doing nothing other than collecting dust for a little while longer it looks like.
  17. Damn mine was lower $85 at 1200 sq feet. I also have a nest so I turn it up when I’m gone during the day, and then back it down when I get home
  18. There is no major economy in the world doing nearly as well as the United States at the moment. We have almost returned to pre-COVID manufacturing numbers in durable goods (things built to last 3 years minimum). The thing that truly is hurting the v-shaped recovery is the impact this is having on small businesses due to lockdowns. So while Wall Street companies do well and are able to manage costs, those with limited access to do different regions within this country are struggling mightily. Because of this it’s driving their prices down as big companies (such as mine) are able to demand lower costs since its slim pickings for some. What do I know though, I only have an MBA and manage $75 Million in spend a year
  19. Whoa don’t be a d*ck. I’m just making a point how people are basically turning Wendy’s into a Sonic with their closed dining room
  20. Well yeah being social is wayyy more important here than in Ohio or Michigan. Almost everyone goes out to eat/golf/boat/beach on Friday/Saturday here and in fact I’m at a Wendy’s right now and a bunch of people are eating with friends in the parking lot. Lol I know it sounds weird but for these folks giving up bars, boat launches and restaurants isn’t worth anything. They plain out don’t like staying at home in the South
  21. Yes because as I've said before THEY REALLY DON'T CARE AS A SOCIETY. Dude lol it's not the governments, there's ample testing here. People just aren't really as phased by this as what you're seeing up North. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just telling you what's happening
  22. It's not close to the same as here. Dollars wise it's basically a tie, $22 Billion, but this state is considerably less populated and poorer than Michigan. So a lot of these people cannot afford to go without, the tourism industry as a percentage is as big as the auto industry is in Michigan. Charleston is basically a city on the hill compared to most of the state, the peninsula and it's immediate suburbs are the equivalent of if Farmington Hills/Northville were an entire metro area. It's wild how expensive it is around the city. There are some rougher spots similar to Inkster a little bit from there and then where I live is a lot like Westland but once you get outside of that it gets very rural. I wouldn't say people don't believe it's real here, they just really don't care. I don't know why but I'm telling you the vast majority do not care. I don't decide societal rules here lol all I can do is wear a mask and spend more time on the beach
  23. Believe what? We had extremely low numbers until the state opened up. Combine tourism with masks being the only mandate and it's a like 5000 j/kg for Coronavirus.
