One thing for sure. When we do finally end up getting one this board is going to implode.

What would be more likely here? A midwestern/plains severe weather event or a cat 2 in a given year?

Oh so now you agree that cold front was the catalyst for the complete pattern flip. However I believe that a transient well timed pattern will easily let any tropical up here. A back break does not mean it's over tropical wise. Agree on SSTs but our great hits are by 35 mph moving cyclones and SSTs minimally affect those. Ask Newfoundland about that.
Agreed..anything else is basically a glorified nor’easter

Henri 2021?
Yeah you’re correct. Good call

The first southeast approaching tropical system would be a bit unprecedented so I doubt it happens for that reason alone

I hope we build up as much heat and humidity as possible, get an EML train going, and then drive in a powerful trough which brings us Fall...but before Fall comes Fall...Fall is in all the trees across the region falling down by a massive bow derecho which takes down every tree, forest, and chimney across the region and Santa is left having to knock on people's doors to deliver presents this winter
Followed by a tropical system two days later

I have some friends in Punta Gorda who just said they are having one hell of a thunderstorm out ahead of Idalia

Difficult to imagine another summer with this much rain again. Unless we get three tropical systems in a row

How didn’t that hurricane especially at that point in time in history not destroy every living being in its path? Often wondered about that

I’m not even going to look at maps. That’s automatically the kiss of death for me

Raise your hand if you thought Bob would be the last legitimate threat up here and that’s now over thirty years ago

those were weak sauce tropical systems , The 1 cane was a clown named Irene With generously valued winds at 75.
So I guess busy with small weak systems but not like we’ve been dodging formidable canes with very close calls
This is true. These recent misses have hardly been a match to anything from ‘54 or ‘38

Just noticed NWS Boston is hosting a webinar on Aug 22 and the theme is “Flash Floods and tornadoes” lol. I hope they can think of something to talk about

Something passed to my south.
Nothing too insane that I observed other than blinding rain. The tree tops got gusty for about a minute but that was it

Sort of spooky that there is such overwhelming consensus that this is going to become a history making storm at least in terms of its intensity (if nothing else)
