  1. got the big bathtub to tap into moisture; pro mets are saying they expect long island and easter ct to get slammed as well; same reasons imo.
  2. well, generally, where they converge in woodbridge, that's the area i would look at as north of i95; could use new brunswick as a rough guide too. the river is kind of a border so to speak, but this is all back of the envelope stuff. you never really know where the lines might set up.
  3. I’m up; it’s the old man’s 3 am curse: usually up for an hour before crashing again. Thank god I’m retired. Worried about the wheel on my blower and there’s nothing I can do but hope it holds up. Really worried about dealing with excessive amounts now; I’ve got the two stage backup but these kinds of snows are dangerous for folks like me.
  4. supposed to be rain during the day on sunday
  5. just saw a pennsy weather discussion online where they said welp, we went from a minor event to potentially historic here......
  6. man i saw that in 1973....still ranked as among the most terrifying films made......
  7. other than snow, i could do without it too. hate hurricanes, tropical storms, rainy noreasters. hate ice storms most of all.
  8. just go online and you can find people to clean the snow. it's a thing, i don't go to facebook but that's one source.
  9. there was a guy at nws years ago who clearly didn't like snow and would write things like, some rain could mix in and save the day.....
  10. the impact of the heavy sleet on top of the snow makes it as impactful as a deeper snow; it was a very hard cleanup with crews still working locally even last week. i've never seen cleanup efforts take so long, not even march 93, which was even icier...but it warmed up after a few days.
  11. schools are where peoples' taxes and children come together. it is among the most important beats a reporter can have.
  12. suburban districts absolutely care about state funding and will not chance losing it; i once taught all the way to june 30, in 1994, and gave up most of spring break, then started summer school. and i was in grad school. i was totally burned out.
  13. the size and impact of that storm has to put it on the list.
  14. they just posted 9 forecasters on nj.com....most were very low, some said we gotta wait, but none predicting a lot, most said south jersey and the coast to jackpot, and one said passaic co.....so that's a selection of pros.....my friend just said to me, it isn't gonna snow is it?
  15. its usually half a day and counts as a whole day; they have plenty of time to head out. at least in nj. some districts lost a lot of days so they are not gonna call if they can help it, as it starts to come out of april break, when teachers and kids are less likely to show up because they have other plans. a district i worked in tried to make the teachers pay for their substitutes if they showed they had tickets to go away already; only the nontenured went for it. me, i just went to work. i rarely travel. as half the kids were out, it was an easy week...think this was 96.
  16. actually the superintendent. i walk with a retired one and he said he used to get up at 4 am and drive to 3 different schools with the head of maintenance; if that dude said no way, he called a snow day. and, he's a total weenie.
  17. tough when working full time...you get exhausted. he's still young; i told him go for an advanced degree. even steve d had to sell suits at macy's for awhile. guy's gotta earn a paycheck.
  18. i tell people if nothing else, follow him or nj 12. forget the guy's name at nj 12 as i don't have cable, but he is pretty good. or there's the kid at wegman's with the met degree from rutgers, or my neighbor with his met degree who works the window at micky d's....its' tough out there....i've known that kid since he was in grade school with my daughter. he's actually doing alright at mcdonalds, been there a decade.....of course he'd like to take lee goldberg's job....
  19. viewers do not like hearing snow. they want to hear no snow.....i have friends right now saying it won't snow, it can't snow...not because of facts, but because they do not want it to snow....and those are the ones who are willing to even say the word...i know people who won't even say it.
  20. i'm 63 and haven't watched in decades. 60 is young enough to have seen the rise of phones and social media.....
  21. when i see you getting serious, and i believe you used to do the play by plays back in the day, before you had kids and mine were still little, i tend to check on the condition of my snow removal equipment. i need a tire on one of them....
