    The EPO has been predominantly negative since June, if we can keep that up, it could make winter interesting. It drove winter for several seasons in a row when all the other teleconnections looked bad.

    It's odd that the graphics suggest warmer than average temps here during the -PDO but during the -PDO of the mid 1940s to the late 1970s we saw our coldest and most snowy winters. In te core of that -PDO that started in 1947, from 1955-1970, for instance was far far cooler on average in winter than the 1985-2000 period in the + PDO that flipped in the late 1970s. ;Looking at the graphic below, you can almost match it up that when it's in the warm or +PDO phase, it's warmer than normal here, when it's in the cool or -PDO phase, it's cooler than normal here.

    I'm not sure if it makes much difference at all, but the snow cover in the NH is much more expansive right now than last year at this time in our source regions. Last year NE Canada had more snow than this year. Russia, Siberia, Alaska, Western Canada and the upper Midwest are far more snow covered at this time vs last year on this same day.

    See they finally fixed the reply field. Made it down to 32 this morning. Heavy frost out there.

    I believe the CCHS band may have been there, I believe one of them told me last week that they had a band competition in Sullivan County, if that's the one you were at. Down to 36 degrees here and foggy. Think we can run at 32 or 33, the dewpoint has fallen to 33, down from 39 a few hours ago.

    How fun would it be to see this in winter? We haven't had a -NAO average in October since 2014. Memorable winters don't match up in any particular fashion with a -NAO in Oct. 2013-14 both had -NAO Octobers with cold/snowy winters for parts of the forum area. As did 2009 and 2010, both 09-10 and 10-11 were cold and snowy winters. But the frigid snowy winters from 1959-1966, as well as 1995 leading into 1996 and the late 70s winters were all +NAO Octobers.

    Non stop drizzle/mist here and 55 degrees. Didn't add to the total really but has kept things wet into this evening.

    Maybe some patchy showers down stream. Between the storm Saturday night and the rain today have added .45 to the bucket for October. Around 1/3rd what was modelled just a couple of days ago. At least it's been cloudy and cool so the rain didn't burn off. Currently 63 and maybe falling into the 50s late this afternoon into early evening.

    Rain just fell apart for East Tennessee as compared to its trek through West and Middle. Rather than the .5-.75 forecast I'd say .1-.25 unless it redevlops.

    Had a thunderstorm and some steady rain earlier. Hope to get the leaves nice and wet over the next few days to slow or prevent flash fires this month.

    Up to 87 here today. Probably the hottest October day here ever.

    The hottest one I can find before the 100 yesterday at Chattanooga was 97 in Savannah in 1954.

    I'm getting pretty fortunate regarding the heat. Sitting at 85 right now. It's even 90 in Crossville. I believe that may be their only 90 degree temp ever there. At least on record. They didn't have a station for some of the prior heatwaves.

    It also is pretty wet for early next week. Need a good soaker before fire season truly hits. Had a decent one yesterday but over a very small area, probably a 4 mile circle around my house.

    Had another bout of moderate rain today. Enough that the roads were still wet in shady areas hours later. Kept the temperature down in the 80s here again today.

    More rain showers moving through this afternoon, one was heavy but brief. There may be a few more in the pipeline but probably not much more than the kind that soaks into the ground within 10 minutes.

    Managed 48 yesterday morning. No luck this morning though. Hopefully the rain comes to pass for the area this evening.

    Currently low 50s here, might make a run at upper 40s by morning. Will hope so at least.

    Actually pulling off some rain this afternoon. Not heavy but enough to use the windshield wipers.
