    Happy spring everyone. Green-up taking place right on schedule.

    First signs of green-up on some lawns in the area. Not yet at mi casa. IIRC, I think mine is one of the last ones in the neighborhood to take shape. How early can one put down a spring fertilizer? Is there time enough to do a first-of-season treatment and some overseeding before putting down any pre-emergent?

    Was doing some quick of sun angle now vs October. Realized that in just 7 months, we'll be spending the weekends blowing leaves, watching football and looking for signs of a frost. And so the world turns.....

    Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! There is so much focus on "average". All averages are normal, but normal does not mean "average" by any stretch. Outside of few instances--baseball,e.g.--it tells you very little all by itself. That's why we look at the ensemble spread so closely--the 'avergage"/"mean' doesn't really tell us too much. At minimum, I would look at +1/-1 SD as "normal".

    I have not kept a seasonal tally this year so I can't give a seasonal total. But for this year, my new locale has ended up being pretty decent. A couple surprises (like the night-time band that added 7" to the blizzard total) have made things okay. At least as of 2/25.

    We've been having some fairly steady moderate snow, but now we're getting some decent flakes with it. A little over 10" at this point. Heading out to clear the drive.....needing my afternoon dunkin' donuts coffee.
