I know you all have been wondering about this. This is regarding your forecasts from the "local on the 8's" via The Weather Channel and Comcast as your cable provider (not sure if other providers are doing this as well). Just for kicks, I sent in a question why the location for my "local on the 8's" is not even in the same county. It all comes down to Comcast consolidating equipment areas. At least I got a response from The Weather Channel today, which stated: "Comcast Cable is consolidating areas within a number of television markets across the country. When a cable company consolidates equipment, they will combine two (2) or more units into one and serve a larger geographical area. We, at The Weather Channel, when notified about the consolidation, will revise the area served data to suit all viewers. The cable company typically picks the forecast point name; in this case it is Audubon, New Jersey. We are in a partnership with Comcast and are working together to provide the most critical weather data and local forecasts, as well as severe weather alerts for your area. We would encourage you to contact your local Comcast office and provide them with your feedback on this change as we continue to work with them to bring you your local weather forecasts for Mount Holly, Moorestown and Burlington County, New Jersey".

The one thing that stands out to me in that SVS is that there are two warning headlines at the top. Each warning is seperate (storm-based) so the second one had to be manually added. No doubt that WFO was extremely busy during that time.

You certainly add value with many of your posts.

I started with a college internship at a local TV station while attending SUNY Brockport (B.S. in meteorology and minor in mathematics). Not to long after this ended, a part time job opened there and it was mentioned to me to go ahead and apply since I was just there for an internship. Got the job so worked the early morning shift while still in college, then continued to work there part time after graduating. There was no need for another full time meteorologist at the time at this TV station so I started looking elsewhere. My goal was to work for the NWS some day. That did not happen at first, so I applied to several private sector companies. I was hired by AccuWeather and worked there for 3 years, then got hired by the NWS in 2003. I really enjoy my job and am thankful for it as it certainly sounds like the competition is much greater these days. Sometimes I think that before working for the NWS, one should work for either the media or private sector first to get a taste of that side. I felt it was an interesting perspective by working in the media, private and now government sector. I always tell college students in meteorology to get as much experience while they can while in college. Participate in internships, work on research projects that your professors are involved in, and even take on case studies. All great things to add to your resume.
