  1. One can argue this should have been implemented weeks ago as a first measure to reduce the spread, instead of destroying the economy and lives of millions. What was already a fragile economy here, is decimated. 70 confirmed cases in the entire UP, 11 deaths. Marquette County hasn't had a new case confirmed in 3 days, yet the stay home order extended. This is not a one size fits all state. I feel completely safe at the grocery store or in public. I wear a mask, don't touch my face, and wash my hands. But whatever.
  2. Negaunee, MI is a ghost town. We have mining, logging, and tourism. The mine has shut down.... tourism?
  3. Record cold was experienced across a good share of Upper Michigan early today. There is an asterisk next to the records. Houghton and Iron Mountain tied record lows previously set in 1930 and 1936 respectively. Munising broke a record low of 17 set back in 1945. The National Weather Service site near Negaunee set a record for April 22 at 11 degrees. The old record of 14 was set 34 years ago. Clear, calm conditions brought lows of 10 at Baraga Plains and 3 above at Spincich Lake in Luce County.
  4. Wow. 32 here. Just finished stocking up the next weeks firewood.
  5. I still have some of last weeks snow that fell on top of 20 inches of glacier pack. Yesterday’s high was 28, tonight 22. Average high is 51 ( pre lake breeze of course).
  6. April doesn't exist anymore, it's March 53rd.
  7. The northern lakes region being particularly inhospitable today. Cold morn...25 degrees and howling with windchill down in the single digits, some fresh snow overnight blowing around as well, giving it that extra special winter feel.
  8. I'm getting grumpy in my old age, I have less and less tolerance for April. Waiting on the snow to melt and for it to warm up seems endless this year. When was the last AN April? the next week Today- A slight chance of snow showers before 10am, then a slight chance of rain showers after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Tonight- Scattered rain and snow showers before 10pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Tuesday- Isolated snow showers before 9am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 32. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Tuesday Night- A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 3am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 17. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Wednesday- A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Wednesday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Thursday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Friday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Saturday- Partly sunny, with a high near 42. Saturday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Sunday- Partly sunny, with a high near 41.
  9. I don’t think people are as restless as they are worried.
  10. After a high of 29 yesterday and low of 8 overnight, we inch up a degree to 30 for the forecast high today with more popcorn type 5 minute blizzards. By the weekend, hopefully some weather resembling springtime. Took this pic yesterday, vehicle has been sitting there all winter long, hope they're ok
  11. On that same date, he also advised the President that it was okay to proceed with campaign rallies as long as people were healthy, then quickly changed.
  12. As late as Feb 29th, one of the primary experts (Fauci) advising the President said in an interview on the Today Show, "No need to change lifestyle yet". If that's what was being advised at the time, what do you think the president should have done differently, instead of listening to the experts? Plenty of blame to go around. Hopefully as a country we can learn from this and make better decisions next time.
  13. I find it interesting during yesterdays presser, Dr. Fauci stated that the president never once didn't listen to their recommendations and didn't "push back" at the idea of shutting down. The president said yes to every recommendation made to him by the "experts".
  14. I'm not arguing the validity of the lockdown or social distancing measures, I've been out two times in a month. It's just the list of essential/nonessential seems arbitrary to me.
  15. I guess driving to the gas station to purchase lottery tickets, totally essential. Can't go buy paint but you can go to the pot shop. It's just silly. Also... a lot of people in colder areas indoor garden and greenhouse grow and the time for that is now.
  16. If only it would stay this nice. Supposedly. I hear and see stories of people finding them by the dozens in mid to late May, but for whatever reason my local area doesn't seem to have them. I've not found a singe morel in 7 years of looking. I've often wondered if it's the heavy pine or just harder to spot with the ferns that grow up so quick. It was so easy to find them in Indiana. Some local grocer's will carry them in-season and they're much cheaper than buying them down that way.
  17. .25" of rain this morning, with temps around 40 this afternoon. Fog settled in after the rain but am hoping for some late day sun and a small spike in temps for a bit. Road up to my place... mud season starting.
  18. Michigan in particular with its tourist driven economy could really face hard times. I can't imagine the UP without the summer visitors. There's 311, 000 people UP-wide, many businesses would fold pretty quick if people can't afford vacations and travel. The ripple effect of this whole situation is still unknown, but business as usual is done. (imo)
  19. UMB must have been tossin' em back last night.
  20. My sister and her bf, who both work as RN's at a hospital in central Florida, both have symptoms and were told to "come in anyway, probably allergies".
  21. I'd assume misinformation or even ignorance over racism in the case of Rogue. I believe he is a good guy and that's all I'll say.
  22. Meh...I don't believe Rogue is racist. Maybe I'm racist for not seeing he's racist.
