Will do. Let me gather my thoughts. I would recommend you visit in the summer as well when everything is more accessible than just the main roads (or bring A sled). The back country of the UP is rugged and unforgiving and many areas with sketchy cell service.

For me it was either The Marquette area or Houghton. While I enjoy living in the woods, I do appreciate everything Marquette has to offer as far as food, stores and shopping etc...The Grand Marais area has very little in that regard, everything would be a drive and I’m 25 minutes to anything substantial as it is. Otherwise I may have chosen the same area as you. Plus it’s pretty touristy there with Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls so close and I’m not into the visitors. I like this area because No major highway runs through and pretty much every road turns into a narrow, dirt two-track logging trail.

Once it's in the single digits it's all the same to me, although the wildlife (and those who works outside) might disagree. Should reach 15'ish for a high today with one more night below zero before a substantial, albeit brief warmup midweek. Ice on superior has really increased the past couple days but I doubt it goes past 40% this year. idk

nother cold one, -17 was the overnight low.

Forgot to add the Iron Mountain average, but it's only 39" to date so they're doing alright. Don't confuse Iron Mountain with Ironwood. All the info is under NOWdata-- daily almanac https://www.weather.gov/wrh/climate?wfo=mqt

Some seasonal snowfall totals from across the UP as of today. The highest reported is Larium/Calumet with 191.5" but I'm sure there are unreported areas between Munising and Grand Marias this year that are also approaching 200" if not more. Most places are reasonably close to average. The highest depths I could find was Painsdale with 44" and 10s Grand Marias with 41". Calumet/Larium 191.5" Munising 158.5" (average 117.4") Herman 155.3" (average 143.2") MQT 126.1 (average 128.6") Ironwood 126.5" (average 132.8") Bergland Damn 123.3" (average 128.1") Chatham 112.4" (average 118") Watton 106.8" (average 80.1) The Soo 105.8" (average 88.3") Michigamme 91.6" Big Bay 87.2" (average 92.4") Clarksburg 85.9" (average 74.9") Alberta 81.7" Garden Corners 75.4" Jacobsville 75" Gladstone 59.6" Iron Mountain 45.7" (average 39") Memoninee 41.7"

Usually twice but last year only once, just depends on the winter. It can take the weight... it sat empty for many years. I've noticed every now and then deer wont migrate, idk. I get the feeling this one may be an orphan not accepted by the herd and lacking the instinct to leave. She hangs close to the house where it's safe and I can rattle a bucket of corn and she'll come down the hill. I don't usually make a habit of feeding the deer and I'd have rather she left - but. 5 degrees and blowing snow.

The mild weather has ended. Started the day off in the upper 20's after a couple inches of clipper snow last night. Artic front moved through with a heavy burst of snow just after noon and the temp has been steadily falling all day to the current reading of 9. LE snow has also started to organize and has been light/moderate to briefly heavy. Winter Storm warning remains in effect until 7 am, although this would have been an advisory if not for the wind and ample snow to blow around. Out feeding all the critters before it gets dark. A lone, very young deer has stayed behind this winter instead of heading towards the lake with the herd. I'm keeping her fed, otherwise she'd be a goner.

I don't mind the long winters as long as it's active but even then, after 6 months of cold and snow I'm more than ready for the season to change...however, being this far north and so close to icy Lake Superior, it stays winter like well into April and cold into May most years, so there's very little springtime. In fact, some of the biggest snows I've seen while living here have been in April, and some snowpack usually lingers into May. Speaking of your time here, It's the 100th annual ice carnival going on now at tech. Heading over for the fireworks Saturday night.

Hey Josh. I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. I keep think you're gonna post one day and say you've moved to the Tug or something, but after so many years in Gaylord, you may be done with snow and cold. haha I think the last real good winters in N lower were the two years I lived there, 2012-13 and 2013-14. I can remember it snowing in Ellsworth to some degree for two weeks straight one of those years. Hope the last month or so of winter can deliver for ya, although this late in the season, the excitement does dwindle.

Clipper system should deliver a nice dose of snow to the UP snow belts. Forecast is for upwards of 8" but hi-res models yield as much as 15-20" imby and through the spine of the Keweenaw down to the Porkies the next 48 hours. Should be quite windy as well with temps falling below zero.

That area has done well due to a persistent NW flow all winter. As of today the Munising station has recorded 151.4", with 35" otg. And things look good in the belts

Winter 2021-22 Short/Medium Range Discussion
weatherbo replied to Chicago Storm's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
Was spoiled last year when the seasonal snow cover was gone the first of April instead of mid May. Water content of the snowpack on this date last year was around 4”, this year it’s 7” or better. Another month an I’ll be ready for some rain. -
If we're posting roof drifts. Took this January 5th, 5:53 pm leaving Negaunee after a day of fishing on Teal lake.

To be fair- Alek made a call, you gave a range.

I would rather snowshoe through the backcountry and enjoy the serenity of nature vs riding a sled. It just isn't fun anymore, and it seems a lot of people can't ride without being completely shitfaced so it's dangerous as well. I don't even keep track of how many people die up here each year due to speed and alcohol.

This is why we should still have the lake effect snow advisory. -
Went to bed and it was 5 degrees, woke up to 20 degrees and snow falling along an energized lake enhanced front crossing the area. Looks like 3-4" of snow has fallen so far. Temp falling through the teens.

Frigid night... -21 here. Wakefield -27 Randville -24 Doe Lake -27 Stonington -30 Champion -27 Coldest temp was on the Marquette/Baraga county line at -32.
