Some places in Buncombe got snow that normally don't out of that direction. Even Mills River had a dusting. Probably how you got flakes. I'm directly in the lee of Mt Mitchell so you can forget about anything here out of that direction barring a strong mesolow.
Charlotte has barely seen snow this decade period. It rarely snows the first week of December anywhere outside the mountains. There are a few examples, especially in WNC, but it's more likely to snow in mid March.
I hope some folks who haven't seen accumulating snow in 3 years see some tonight but its sad this is all we have had to track in years (within 24 hours) outside the mountains.
Some people enjoy the dry, windy, cold but if there's no threat of snow, it's just a waste to me. I'm more interested to see what happens after this upcoming pattern because it does not appear one that's conducive for snow.
Operational runs are starting to show the relaxation period being extended and the trough being centered too far NE. Cold temperatures have backed off some too.
