  1. Yeah the ORH dews definitely have been pretty steady below the other sites by a few degrees. Not sure how elevation plays into that, I almost expect the valleys to mix out more with higher T-Td spread than the hilltop. I don’t doubt the dew at the local stations are higher, they always are. Just our “real feel” in my mind is calibrated to the ASOS readings. Like it feels outside as it does when those stations record mid-50s but maybe it’s always been 60F, just didn’t know it. And yeah, Graham and my cousin (his wife) own the camp next to my parents’. Plenty of beer will be drank at the big campfire tonight.
  2. It honestly doesn’t feel like that for a dew point. Without a doubt feels like low to mid 50s but I’m calibrated to the ASOS dews, so low 60s at PWS probably makes sense. All the family here can talk about is how refreshing the air mass feels. I was just swimming with your mechanic and the Tolland crew . Dew points: ORH 49F BDL 53F IJD 53F
  3. My old uncle was just telling us about his old outhouse he keeps for nostalgia (obviously has plumbing and two indoor bathrooms now). It’s been pumped and cleaned and no one uses it. He said the ground water is so high the hole has a couple feet of water in the outhouse. He’s never seen that in the summer before and it’s been there since the 1950s when he started building camps here.
  4. That stuff coming out? Or are you forever getting a cavity search by TSA for setting off the metal detectors?
  5. Dude, go read about sports or something for a while. Relive the Blizz of ‘05. Anything other than COVID .
  6. Another top 10 day in CT. Probably some of the best, most comfortable weather I can remember for July down here in past several years of visits. Upper 70s over 50s with strong sun. Hot enough for swimming, but nice enough to do other activities too. Difference between sun and shade is high today.
  7. I haven’t noticed or heard of any weird behavior or odd upticks in legal but I wouldn’t hear about it in this short term way. More long term trends trickle down outside of the legal depts, not short term suits.
  8. Were there medical bills involved? This country’s medical system and the insane costs of care are often the root of the litigation problem as the ski industry has found out. Most people who are serious about suing got hurt skiing or snowboarding and cannot afford to pay their medical bills, so it’s their only recourse. Or it would put them in a very bad spot financially. Several people have written emotional letters that have gotten to ski and industry publications about how they always said they’d never sue another business, hate lawyers and the sue happy USA… but then when a leg injury required multiple surgeries and a year of PT, they were looking at financial ruin so they need to recoup money somehow. I remember Powder Magazine running a letter from a high profile lawsuit after the fact where the dad basically said he sued only to keep a house over his family’s head and to protect his children’s college fund. The hospitals were looking for like a million dollars and his insurance was playing some hardball that the ski area (out west) should pay it and basically forced him to sue. When there’s money at stake, people will do anything. Medical bills could also just be an easy scapegoat but it’s not a stretch to see how someone could quickly get in over their head with medical bills and look for a way out.
  9. Ski areas are the same. They settle all the time without admitting fault but just to avoid lengthy litigation costs. “We admit no fault, in fact we are certain you are batshit crazy or high as a kite, but what would it take to just get this to go away? We are not paying major legal fees because you hit your head on ice and missed two days of work with a migraine. How much do you make per day at your job?” It is insane the number of people who get a lawyer to write a letter about the dumbest mundane stuff.
  10. Yeah he looks like he should be in Super Troopers.
  11. Yeah the third time through the order they all got him.
  12. Your rain makes sense. My dad does a rough tally here on a garden gauge and he says over 14”. Cocorahs has it going right up 84 to Sturbridge, MA.
  13. Corn was phenomenal, had to have a couple ears. Blows away the crap we bought up north in VT last week. It was half the size and white instead of yellow, ha. Like $0.15 an ear in Morrisville .
  14. Min dews today… ORH 47F, BDL 52F, IJD 52F. Gotta love it in that triangle.
  15. Tree House and pork chops. Picked up some local corn from a farm in Woodstock that looks awesome. Haven’t seen any local corn yet up north but these stalks are huge down here. Rain FTW?
  16. Ha! Got a bit of the high anvil clouds, but we full sun right now. This was like 45 minutes ago, nothing but Chamber to your NE in the Quiet Corner.
  17. And lake with a side of banter thread.
  18. Can’t wait to see. Now that’s a serious topic that’s been on my mind all afternoon.
  19. I’m involved in online ski social media and have been since the late 90’s…even that topic has turned into mostly highlighting the negatives on FB. Instagram has such a different vibe in the ski community between FB and it. People do stuff like ski to have fun, but I do think it’s a look into society these days at how it’s so hard for folks to just be content. Maybe people were more happy-go-lucky back then but looking over SkiVT-Listserve archives from UVM, so many posts highlight the positives like it was actually a fun day. Now you get… “Had a fantastic day at ski area XYZ and tons of great runs but I’d rather not dwell on that, let me tell you in 4 paragraphs about this one trail that was horrible…” Its also often the same with product reviews too, so I get that aspect… humans are much more likely to take the time to write negative reviews or experiences towards consumer products than they are to write a positive review. We are a complaining society for whatever reason. Maybe it’s extremely high expectations of life these days?
  20. Weather.gov, Americanwx.com, and Orioles.com only. Ignorance is bliss.
  21. Haha this was the thread where you guys would move the 2 pages of posts in a row about whether it’s humid or COC outside and then remind us all to keep the weather thread clear of banter. Now banter means solving all societal problems on a daily basis.
  22. Facebook is a cesspool…. It’s a platform for people to complain about things. Instagram to me as someone who likes photos is great and it still has a “positive vibe” with a much less serious (read political) slant. It’s a fun social page. Even this forum has slanted much more serious discussion in this thread. Two years ago the banter thread was just nonsense lol. It’s a slippery slope with social, the more complaining you allow, the more that comes. “Air thy grievances.”
  23. Yeah they are all the same. The TV actors on Fox and MSNBC are just that, actors. They know how to get their audience going. If someone gives you that type of paycheck, you’ll say whatever slant they want you to take.
