  1. One last hot day before we cool down tomorrow. While we are still over 2" of rain above normal this year here in Chesco our lawns gardens and many farmers in the county could sure use a little rain, The good news is our best shot for some rain in a couple weeks looks to arrive later today and tonight. After today it look like only one day this week could touch the 90 degree mark again....Wednesday. Chester County records for today: High 99 degrees at West Chester (1988) / Low 40 degrees also at West Chester (1984) / Record daily rainfall today is the 5.75" from the remnants of Hurricane Agnes back in 1972. Some other daily rainfall from that day across Chester County included 5.63" at Morgantown/Elverson / 5.75" at West Grove / 4.56" at West Chester and 4.98" at Glenmoore,

  3. As of 1230pm all locations in Chester County are above 90 degrees. This includes a few spots reaching 90 for the first time so far this year. Of interest here in East Nantmeal we have already hit 91.5 degrees. I have kept daily local observations here for 21 years / summers. This is the warmest temperature recorded here in East Nantmeal Township since the 91.6 degree reading 19 years ago back on August 13, 2005. This is only the 60th time I have recorded a day over 90 degrees in the past 21 summers. Tomorrow will be another hot day but maybe a couple degrees lower than today. Tomorrow will end what for some spots has been a string of 90+ days. The good news is as I look into the longer range models....Is I have a suspicion we will not see another day this summer as hot as today. Stay cool!

  5. A note on the above analysis an average temp error does not mean the station is wrong....however when the overall rating for each of the metrics (in this case temperature) is given a red check mark by the Gladstone analysis this indicates a problem when compared to surrounding stations. Most stations including mine have average temp errors vs surrounding stations....mine runs cooler but it still is within the acceptable range of surrounding stations....this is why my station gets a green check mark. While the results for KRDG result in a red check mark on the analysis of temp so it is clearly a problem as it usually is.
  6. Below is the analysis of the KRDG Thermometer over the past few days...it is worse than thought...that thermometer is running over 4 degrees on average too warm during the day!!
  7. The RDG thermometer has been an issue for a few years.....I saw an analysis on another forum that highlights the issues. I will see if I can find it....
  8. Most but not all NWS/MADIS stations did exceed 90 degrees today across Chester County with the highest station temp being the 92.6 degrees at Warwick Township. The lowest maximum temp today was the 88.1 at West Grove. Besides West Grove the other higher elevation spots like KMQS Coatesville Airport 89.6 / Nottingham /89.4 and East Nantmeal 88.6 all came close to exceeding 90 but at least for today again came up a wee bit short. Saw a couple 98 readings from some non-NWS WU sites etc. - they may need to add a heat shield or at least move their thermometers into the shade!!

  10. Had a high a little earlier of already of 88.4 degrees that is the warmest temp so far this year at East Nantmeal with the previous highest temp being April 29th at 85.9 degrees. This is also the warmest temp since last September 7th when we hit 89.1 degrees, We have not recorded a temperature over 90 degrees here in East Nantmeal in almost 3 years with the last occurrence being the 91.2 degrees back on June 30, 2021 - we have a chance do so over the next 3 days....but will of course not be stunned if we end up with another 89.7 or so as we have seen at least 1x each of the last 2 years....stay tuned!

  12. Wow more than 8 degrees warmer than any location in Chester County to your south! RDG airport is a hotspot and I think you are well above them!! Amazing!!
  13. Across Chester County PA - out of the 14 NWS/MADIS sites only 3 spots exceeded 90 degrees yesterday. Chester Springs/West Chester and Brandwine Airport were the only stations to reach that mark. Some other area highs yesterday Kennett Square 87.8 / West Grove 85.3 / Atglen 86.9 / Nottingham 87.0 / East Nantmeal 84.8 / Marshallton 88.8. Those 3 spots are also the only stations in county to exceed 90 degrees at all the last 3 days... I suspect today we should finally see the majority of stations with the exception of the highest spots reaching the elusive 90 degree mark!

  15. 85.4/84.0/84.8 the last 3 days here in East Nantmeal on VP2...while on the rooftop tempest we pulled an 86.9/85.8/87.4 - EN where heat waves come to die!!
  16. Most locales have again so far today here in Chester County PA failed to reach 90 degrees today through 2pm.....most locations have still not hit 90 degrees so far this "heat wave".....if you folks sweltering in the heat need a break come to the rolling highlands of Chesco for a cool break with highs "only" in the mid to upper 80's!!
  17. Of note through yesterday PHL Airport is well on their way to a top 5 warmest June on record with an average temperature through yesterday at 75.5 degrees.....of course a far different story away from the PHL Airport heat island problem. The 14 Chester County NWS and MADIS sites are running almost 6 degrees cooler from 68.5 degrees at Warwick to as warm as 70.9 degrees at Longwood Gardens. We are only running 1 degree above normal for most of Chester County....this will not be a top 5 warmest June for the county.....now what you will hear about Philly on the news......

  19. Yesterday's high here in East Nantmeal was 85.4 our warmest day since the 85.9 back on April 29th. Most spots across the County failed to touch the 90 degree mark....but today should see most with the exception of the higher spots like East Nantmeal and Atlgen hitting 90 degrees. Many spots should see temps in the 90's over the weekend before the "heat wave" breaks and we see temps fall back into the mid to upper 80's. There can be some small rain chances starting on Friday night through the weekend. Chester County records for today: High 98 degrees at Phoenixville (1929) / Low 39 degrees at Devault (1954) / Record rain 2.88" at West Grove (1934)
