The great stretch of late summer / early fall weather continues across the area with similar temps and low humidity almost every day through at least Tuesday. Highs will remain in the upper 70's to low 80's with some early morning fog possible each day and seasonably cool nights in the 50's. Next needed rain chances may appear by the middle of next week with a potential tropical disturbance along the east coast. Chester County Records for today: High 98 degrees at West Chester (1983) / Low 35 degrees at Phoenixville (1977) / Rain 5.96" at Phoenixville from the impacts of Hurricane Donna (1960)

The 1st 10 days of September have been the 2nd chilliest start to the month in the 21 years of records I have here in East Nantmeal...only 2017 got off to a chillier start. Our slow moderating trend continues today through the weekend with temps reaching the low to mid 80's by the weekend but continuing comfortable humidity and seasonably cool nights. Chester County records for today: High 99 degrees at Coatesville 1SW (1897) / Low 34 degrees also at Coatesville 1SW (1924) / Rain 3.86" Morgantown/Elverson (1960)

Per our friend Chris Martz "Stare at it 'til your eyeballs are strained and they fall out of your sockets. Then, when they do, finger them back in and stare some more. The plot below shows the Conterminous U.S. average mean temperature by year from 1895 to 2023. The blue curve shows the average computed from the raw (measured) thermometer data. The red curve shows the average computed from the reported (adjusted) thermometer data. The actual temperature data indicate that there has been a statistically insignificant warming trend in the U.S. since 1895. The reported data suggest that there has been a very large warming trend by almost 2°F since 1895. Nearly all of the warming is a result of arbitrary adjustments due to the supposed “Time of Observation Bias,” or T.O.B.S. for short."

Today will likely be our 8th straight day with below normal temperatures. But beginning tomorrow we should warm to near and then above normal as the week progresses. No rain in sight for this week. Chester County records for today: High 97 degrees at Kennett Square (1897) / Low 34 degrees at Phoenixville (1986) / Rain 4.95" at Hopewell (1987)

Some folks saw a little bit of rain yesterday with the most I could find being the 0.58" at Devault. In East Nantmeal we received 0.23". Much chillier across the area again this morning with widespread 40's for lows, high temps today will struggle to escape the 60's in the higher spots in the county. Another chilly night in the mid 40s tonight before a slow warm up this week gets us to above normal temps in the lower 80's for many spots. Unfortunately no rain in the forecast through the upcoming work week. Chester County records for today: High 97 degrees at Phoenixville (1939) / Low 40 degrees at Coatesville 2W (1984) / Rain 5.53" at Honey Brook (1987)

Some showers will be working there way from west to east across the area with the cold front passage. Temps will peak in the around 70 degrees before slowly falling late in the day. Rainfall unfortunately looks to be light...but any will help! Much chillier again tonight with lows in the 40's - on Sunday higher spots will struggle to escape the 60's for high temps. We start a slow warming trend during the upcoming work week - but no heat or humidity in site! Chester County records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 37 degrees at Devault (1984} / Rain 3.07" at West Chester (2008)

Cloudy today with temps getting close to normal before we slip back below normal over the weekend. We begin a warming trend that should get most of us back to the low to mid 80's next week...but without oppressive humidity and comfortably cool nights. Our best rain chance will be tomorrow afternoon...but we are not holding our breath! Chester County Records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 38 degrees at Coatesville 1SW (1924 / Rain 7.60" at KMQS Coatesville Airport (2008)

What is your elevation difference? I find that on calm cool mornings the higher spots like mine radiate poorly - but on mornings like yesterday with cold air advection higher spots like mine will often come in cooler....might be the same there??

Our next chance of rain comes Saturday night before clearing and turning a bit cooler again by Sunday. Chester County records for today: High 103 degrees at Phoenixville (1953) / Low 43 degrees at West Chester (1946) / Rain 3.48" at Phoenixville (1935)

This morning's low here in East Nantmeal of 48.5 degrees represents the coldest early autumn season temperature in my 21 years of weather records in the Township. The previous record was the 48.1 on September 6, 2013. The lowest temperature I could find across the County this morning was the 42.8 at Warwick Twp. Below normal temps will slowly warm back to near normal by Thursday before rain chances increase toward the weekend and we again fall back to below normal by the end of next weekend. Chester County records for today: High temperature 103 degrees at Phoenixville (1953) / Low 41 degrees also at Phoenixville (1916) / Rain 3.72" at West Chester MADIS (2012)

A great weather week ahead as we start September. We should see high temps start below normal and moderate to near normal in the upper 70's by the end of the week. Nightime lows will reach the 40's in some areas tonight and especially tomorrow night in the lower locales of the county. Our next rain chances wait till Friday night. Chester County records for today: High 105 degrees in Phoenixville (1954) / Low 40 degrees at Kennett Square (1909) / Rain 2.24" at Phoenixville (2006)
