  1. 1st early high level winter forecast from the folks at WeatherBell show a slow start to winter but averaging only slightly above normal temps with snowfall in our area at 125% of normal August 2019 Plenty of potential for a severe winter. East will have to overcome early warmth. SST analogs are amazingly close to a blend of 2013-14 and 2014-15. Warm northeastern Pacific and cooler Nino1+2 usually a great cold signal. Snowfall should be generous.
  2. So far today in Western Chesco Hi/Lo 77.1/65.0 (may drop lower before midnight) +7.8 above normal . Of note tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Floyd....I recorded the greatest single day rain event in Chester County since records began in 1894. On that day my station measured 8.28" of rain. It was a very chilly day for the date with the temp falling much of the afternoon as the rain bands intensified coming in off the ocean and up-sloped into Western Chester County....we bottomed out at 57.4 at 9:11pm. I remember watching water rescues taking place at Route 30 and 340 in Thorndale with boats in the intersection next to the McDonalds rescuing folks who tried to drive through the flooding.
  3. Climate Summary for 9/12/19 for Western Chester County PA
  4. The last 2 days here in Western Chester County PA have been the lowest daily max temps in the last 37 years for August 25th and August 26th. Yesterday's high was 71.5 breaking the previous record low max of 72.5 in 2010 and today's high of only 69.2 broke the old record of 71.1 set back in 2006, Today's AM low was 56.7 - nowhere near the record Western Chester County low of 49.0 back in 1987.
  5. Today's climate summary for the philly burbs of Western Chester County PA at East Nantmeal Hi/Lo 71.5/55.3 and at the KMQS Chester County Airport 73.4/57.2 our 3rd straight below normal day. We should make it to 6 straight days with highs in the 70's through Wednesday-enjoy! It would appear we are done with any 90+ days in the Western burbs and will end the season with only 2 days exceeding 90 in East Nantmeal and 4 at the KMQS Airport.
  6. Climate summary for today in Western Chester County KMQS (87.8/69.8) EN (84.8/69.4) of course any dream of 90+ days for the rest of the season are over in Western Chesco but of note of the 31 Mt Holly NWS/FAA sites across PA/NJ/DE/MD all but 8 sites hit 90+ today including Andover/Sussex/TTN/Lehighton/MPO/KMQS/KPTW/KLOM
  7. Does anyone know of any roofing guys or handymen who can get on a high roof (3 stories and also with the current 9 feet above street level rules) and move and remount a Vantage Vue Weather Station? My weather station was apparently mounted to a vent pipe by the builder and appears this might be causing a leak in my ceiling. So I need to move it and remount in a more traditional spot with a bracket and brace on the roof. Having a tough time finding anyone to help out. Any Cape May County contacts or folks you know who will travel to Sea Isle City for the job? If so please send me a private message with email/contact info. Thanks! Paul
  8. But still not an official "heat wave" with 3 consecutive days....correct?
  9. But was it really a heat wave (3 straight days of 90+) ? It certainly could be at your location....but for the majority of the area it has not...just sayin
  10. Today's Highs across Western Chester County ranged from 87.8 at KMQS and 86.2 in East Nantmeal....of course no heat wave in Western Chester County PA as neither location has seen a day above 90 degrees during this stretch. Of interest of the 31 NWS/FAA sites across the Tri-State area of PA/NJ/DE only 12 sites or 39% of all such stations reported a heat wave with the last 3 days exceeding the 90 degree mark. While 13 sites saw 2 days over 90; 3 sites saw only 1 day over 90 and of course the old chilly standbys of Mount Pocono; Chester County Airport and East Nantmeal Township saw no such days. If it wasn't for the local news only using PHL airport would a report of a heat wave in the philly area constitute fake news?
  11. 90 or above for high temps today at all of the NWS/FAA sites across the 31 reporting stations across the PA/NJ and DE tri-state area with the exceptions of Mount Pocono at 84 / Cape May County 88 (Sea Isle City only 83.7 w/sea breeze effect) / Andover NJ 89 / and of course Western Chester County with KMQS at 87.8 and East Nantmeal at only 86.2 - marine influence and relative elevation FTW
  12. Most of the NWS Western Chester County Zone (which is why Mount Holly split the zone) is above 600 ft ASL so yes - most of the zone has not had many 90+ days and should of course not expect many more this season.
  13. Out climate summary for today in Western Chester County PA was a High of 83.4 and a Low of 73.3 for an average temp of 78.4 which is 6.2 degrees above normal . Of note today marks the last day of the summer season that those of us in Chesco have an average high temp that will exceed 80 degrees until next June 9th. That of course does not mean we will see more 80+ days like Sunday with even some upper 80's possible thru Wednesday but any 90 plus days seems well out of reach here in western Chester County
  14. My location running a bit warmer this AM compared to surrounding obs at lower spots with a low of only 58.9 in East Nantmeal and 59.0 at KMQS - still good for our 1st sub 60 degree reading since July 1st. We will see average lows reaching the 50's starting on August 21st. Beautiful day on the way both in Chesco and down the Shore - looks like the sea breeze just kicked in after an AM high of 80.0 now down to 79 with the wind now turned to the SE here at the coast.
  15. Recorded 0.98" of rain last evening for the month up to 7.59" which is 2.92" above normal. Temp wise we ended July with an average temp of 76.0 (+4.1 above normal). This also marks the 9th straight month of above normal readings - last below normal month was November 2018. This is the warmest July since the 77.0 back in 2011. It is also the 6th warmest July since 1983 (warmest was the 80.0 in 1999) All-time this is the 21st warmest July since local records began back in 1894 - the 2nd warmest was the 79.2 way back in 1901
  16. At the PHL Airport heat island airport we are now up to 22 of these 90+ days while out in the Western Chester County NWS zone we are holding at 4 days of 90+ readings at the KMQS Coatesville PA Airport and only 2 such days at the East Nantmeal Township Station....
  17. Rain so far today here in NW Chesco with the multiple evening showers and t-storms now up to 0.76" with more on the way - MTD rain now up to 5.38" which is 2.25" above normal for July through today.
  18. Already up to 86.2 (H.I. 95) - still thinking we fall just short of the required 90 to make this a 3 day "heatwave" at my location.. Wxsim paints just under 1" of rain over the next 30 hours or so.... We are not as far above normal rainfall as some locales but through yesterday the Township has received 4.62" of rain which is 1.66" above normal. YTD precip stands at 33.46" which is 7.03" above normal.
  19. High so far today 92.5 with a high heat index of 113.8 so far. At my place in Sea Isle City NJ the beach has already hit a high of 96.6 degrees with a high index of 115.1
  20. Big news it has happened! The icy landscape here ascending the Welsh Mountain anticline is melting we have hit 90.8 at 11:46am - high heat index so far 108. Our 1st 90+ day in NW Chesco above 650ft since July 3 last year. Chester County PA record high for today is 95 above 650 ft set back in 1991 and the all-time Chesco record all elevations is the 99.0 set back in 1930
  21. Sorry I was traveling out to the left coast this week but incredibly still no 90+ days here in the glacier zone above 650ft - Today was indeed the hottest day of the year in NW Chester County with a high of 89.0 at both 1215pm and 5pm this evening. Of course the PHL heat island hit 95 today their 15th time this year. Very optimistic that tomorrow we finally break the 90 degree mark for the first time in over 1 calendar year. Our last 90+ day here in East Nantmeal Twp was on July 3, 2018 when it hit 92.3. Those betting on 90+ days me thinks the next 3 days are the only shot this year.....wish me luck!!
  22. Of course no such thing as a heatwave in NW Chester County PA did top out at 88.3 yesterday but only 87.5 today and starting to slip. Of course PHL with their 4th straight 90+ day and 5th of the year - nothing like living where 90 degree days come to die!! On a side note down the shore in beautiful Sea Isle City NJ we have indeed recorded our 1st 90 degree temp of the year with a stiff west breeze keeping the sea breeze at bay. Have topped out at 91.2 so far
