Truth is, we still have another 3.5 months of workable wintry weather. Meteorological winter just started Tuesday.

You’re trying to talk sense into someone who is still mentally struggling with the importance of masks, let alone appreciating and understanding the responsibilities of leading a nation of 330 million.

April is not mid-summer.

Restaurants have been reopened forever, and bowling alleys reopened a month ago.

Treatments have improved, and hospital stays have shortened as a result. The problem is balancing that against a bigger swell in cases and the flu season - though as someone mentioned earlier, the flu by itself might not be as big this year with people being more conscientious about handwashing, mask-wearing and social distancing. It’s still a sustainability issue, and now rural areas with reduced access to proper medical equipment are getting slammed.

~1,000 deaths a day off of the 71,000 cases 2 weeks ago. We’re up to 100,000 new cases today, and there’s no indication of a flattening trend.

For people with cancer, Type 1 Diabetes, congenital heart and circulatory problems, asthma, and any other lung diseases, it absolutely matters if they had a president who actively worked to mitigate this disease. There hasn’t been a COVID task force meeting in weeks and 30% of the country is programmed into thinking that the worst is behind us, so they’ll be even more lax in their social distancing/mask wearing/hand washing, while daily cases are reaching record highs and deaths are just starting to creep up to 1,000/day.

It won’t even go that far - there’d be limited capacity. Though I think you attributed the original quote to the wrong person.

As someone who stridently supports the 2nd Amendment myself, I find your statement goes against all of us responsible gun-owners, who far outnumber the irresponsible ones. And I doubt there are going to be many cookouts and weddings in November-March, at least in the Northern tier.

I’m optimistic that we won’t be going through another hard lockdown. You couldn’t get masks in March, and treatments have been improved with a better understanding of the virus, not to mention that most have adapted to the mentality of social distancing and testing is more widespread. Having a mask mandate helps a lot, too. Sure, you’ll still have people who’ll disregard it, but the 10% (accounts for a million or so in MI) of people who’d go around maskless without a mandate will have a far less likely chance of infecting a million more, so hospitals should hopefully withstand this round.

You don’t think wearing a mask during a pandemic should be introduced as a temporary “decency law”?

I’ll agree. In late March, I was really hopeful. We were finally being told upfront just how serious this would be, and it seemed like everything was cohesive, and that our leader was being compassionate. If he kept that up over the summer, I’d have been first in line to vote for him. Instead, it turned into a shit show.

People are “forced” to wear pants when they go out, or risk being arrested. Where are the anti-pants brigades?
