  1. But not referring to stasis/stagnation which results in drought conditions, but rather to frequent changes of air mass (frontal passages).
  2. We're not getting the refreshing cold frontal passages, as used to be summer breaks from heat/humidity for a few days. And with fewer of these frontal refreshers seems also fewer thunderstorms/severe weather episodes punctuating their passage.
  3. Formed right over my head in Monson-- nice brief downpour.
  4. Just as I read this, perhaps the strongest gust of the storm swirled through here in Monson.
  5. Seems a closer to home expedition into the legendary sewers of NYC could result in sightings, or worse, of similar sorts of exotic creatures.
  6. On scales of one to ten, this certainly ranks up there. Maybe book a flight. Then it could be snakes on a plane.
  7. It does seem in general that organized, coherent coastal lows as opposed to strung out disorganized synoptic situations, such as the present, have been lacking in recent years. (Due to the preponderance of fast flows Typhoon Tip often references?) We got away with a biggie this past weekend because it was less a storm and more a situation of exceptional overrunning.
  8. The "Gulf of America" will ICE it out. The Gulf of Mexico is more open to Miller A immigration.
  9. Would this storm, having been an overrunning event on steroids, but lacking barometric "depth;" therefore in its "undisturbed" wake allow for this follow-up to be much more likely to hug the coast, as opposed to being driven out to sea?
  10. Perhaps a squeeze box can be adapted for the delicate clearing your parents' driveway requires?
  11. It was indeed one of those storms that kept you on edge with potential that threatened also, great disappointment. It came in after dark, and what followed was probably the best and most long lasting thunder snow I have ever experienced. It was gone by the next morning having left in its wake about 15" where I was, just west of Boston.
  12. What? Someone thinking he's clever throwing F-Bombs is entertaining?
  13. Narcissistic disorder-- From the "top" on down-- the role modeled pathology of our times...
  14. I will always go to the Box discussions for a little sanity check after all the hype, innuendo and hysteria that bounces about in certain quarters here. Doing so is like putting a kid in time out, taking a deep breath, and taking stock of things. Sometimes blending Box with the outlooks of cooler heads here gives one a pretty good assessment of what's to come.
  15. Not if the anti-science, vaccine deniers have their way...
  16. A bit over 3" here in Monson, MA before we lost Cottontail in favor of Flopsy and Mopsy.
  17. From atop Peaked Mountain in Monson, yesterday: A cold sweep of graupel.
  18. I recall that here in MA-- plus skating on the Concord River-- solidly frozen but for an open channel in the fast current middle. How often does that happen these days? Needless to say, we skated the peripheries. That combination of extreme wind and cold was both long lasting and memorable.
