  1. Detroit finishes November with 7.1" of snow, which ties with 1972 for the 15th snowiest November on record. Through the 26th only 0.9" of snow had fallen. Temperatures finished colder than average with precipitation below average, but neither made it anywhere near their respective top 20 list. I finished with 6.6" snow.
  2. Picked up 2" of wet snow last night. It was another gorgeous plastering snow but as soon as the snow stopped it began dripping off the trees. Wasn't as exciting as the 4" snow the other day, nor did it have as low of visibility. Much of the snowcover has melted with 40゚ today, about 1" left on average. Some 2" spots but also some bare spot. Definitely not a bad start till the season, but certainly hoping Winter kicks into high gear for the whole sub soon. The scenic nature of wet snow is photogenic to say the least, but I'm definitely a powder man...and a reminder to all here to all, Winter is only just beginning. Props to my mom for giving me the idea about my baby pine tree lol.
  3. Dtx didn't issue advisory with the 4pm update and now they did. Wonder what changed their mind?
  4. I can top that...I started shoveling then actually pulled out the snow blower. It was legit heart attack snow so I figured the snow blower would eat it up a lot easier than I could shovel it lol. Where's your girlfriend from?
  5. Wow I didn't realize that last Winter that way. We had plowable snows Dec 1, Dec 17, Dec 25. Tonight looking like a similar track to the last clipper. Quick hitter, thinking 2" with brief heavy rates. Yesterday's 4" compacted to 2-2.5" then froze into a crust this morning.
  6. Yes the squall was just light snow here. After legit snowstorm conditions last night no complaints...but it just shredded. I look forward to good arctic fronts this winter too.
  7. I finished with 0.42" liquid in the 4.1" snowfall. Model qpf ranged from 0.1-0.25" leading up to it. So I consider it an overperformer for sure. How did Frankenmuth do..maybe an inch? Awesome time to be up there.
  8. DTX getting a good start with Winter headlines. After yesterday's Winter Weather Advisory, they hoisted the newer "snow squall warning". That looks to fizzle a bit by the time it gets down here, but nevertheless it looks funny when you read the wording "a dangerous snow squall".
  9. Had a few good squalls this afternoon after a 4" snowfall last night...suddenly feels like mid Winter.
  10. Ended last season with a gorgeous 4.4" plaster snowfall Apr 20/21 and start the next season with a similar 4.1" snowfall Nov 27.
  11. Finished with a total fall of 4.1" of snow with 0.42" liquid equivalent. Snow did compact a little overnight as well as fall off the trees somewhat but still absolutely gorgeous scenes this morning. I November Winter wonderland to be sure. It was a general 2 to 4" snowfall for the Detroit area with the heaviest swath of 4 to 4.5" along i94 from ARB-DTW
  12. Certainly overperformed here. Ended last season with a 4.4" snow storm on April 20/21st and then now getting a 4.0" snow storm to start a new season on November 27th. Pretty nice. We had a few slushy tents of an inch earlier in November but this is real Winter wonderland stuff.
  13. 4.0" of snow here and 4.2" at DTW. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
  14. Looks awesome out there. Winter wonderland with heavy snow falling. DTW at quarter mile visibility.
  15. Lol. It was a good winter outside of the late Feb torch. Deep snow in mid Feb. Perfect snowy christmas season.
  16. Should be a snowy afternoon and evening. Unlike the slushy snow of the 14th, this should stick easily. First WWA of the season.
  17. I'd take a repeat of 2017-18 in a heartbeat
  18. 1.9" is the svg for DTW as well for Nov.
  19. Why do I not remember what this stands for lol? Warm & dry?
  20. Yes temps were very cold. February is our "can't go wrong" month anymore. Last Winter was on its way to being extremely meh, outside of a perfect Christmas snowfall, then as usual February came along and bam. Deep snow and deep cold. How long will you be in Florida?
  21. I just checked the observations, wasn't that quick of hitter. Wonder if you're thinking Feb 4th? That was a classic quick hitter...dropped 3-5" in 4 hours area wide. Feb 15th....after morning snow dropped 1-2" there was a lull all afternoon...then snow began at 5pm, ending at 9am the 16th. Heaviest snow rates in the 10pm-3am window. New snowfall was 8-9" for Detroit and its eastern burbs, on top of the 1-2" from the earlier morning. Snow depth after the storm was 14" at Detroit and 18" at Toledo.
  22. I honestly can't remember how long it lasted but for me personally it was a great storm because we did have a fresh 9" from the main batch, and when you add in all of the old snow on the ground I was like a kid playing with my snow blower in the deep drifts. Uh oh you're going to Florida again? Guess that means not a lot of snow in December and yet another February buried lol.
  23. Actually the storm was a good hit for the east side. There was wave 1 which dropped 1-2" in the morning...then the main event evening into the next morning which dropped 6-10" on the east side. DTX did NOT count the morning wave in their storm summary. So the two day totals were widespread double digits on the east side depends how you counted it (some nws offices counted 1 storm, some 2). The Feb 4th storm was the insane band where the 4-hour 4" snowfall saw the first 3" fall in like 75 minutes. Those were the best synoptic rates I've seen in years. https://www.weather.gov/dtx/210215winterstorm
  24. I would be shocked if there weren't some power house storms in the area in a 2nd year Nina. Based on track you risk anything from snow to ice to rain or a mix of all 3...but chances should be there. Btw...don't forget about Feb 15/16 storm last year. 11" fell, good rates and drifting in the evening. It was definitely the most severe storm we have had in a few years (although Nov 11 2019 was the most anomalous).
