  1. Not really sure. We kayaked in the glacial lagoon and the guide said it was around 5C there (it feeds into the ocean, so at low tide water flows out from the lagoon. At high tide it flows in a little. At the beaches we went to we didn't walk in the water.
  2. That’s at the Westman islands (Vestmannaeyjar)). We almost went there. Would have been about $100 to put the car on the ferry and go there. I was cheap plus the time was an issue. Then to see that formation you needed to take a rib boat tour. That was where the volcano in the 1970s threatened a town and they stopped it. Cool museum there plus lots of puffins.
  3. Jeez please stop with this crap.
  4. Why would anyone be surprised that there is hot weather in August? It being an AN month wasn’t questioned.
  5. Only 87 for a high here yesterday, so no heat wave. But a couple of days near 90 today and tomorrow will be great
  6. The backside of water Seldjalandfoss
  7. Lol. Either my wife or daughter took that pic. I climbed with them up the rickety stair/trail to the top. Went to step out onto the platform where they took the pic. It was made of iron/steel grating so you could see through it. My head started to spin so I had to back away. Funny thing about my fear of heights. I was fine on the much higher cliffs at the ocean or on a chairlift or in a tall skyscraper. But this was only around 200 feet and my brain started to say “nope”.
  8. I’d rather heat than the cool Rainer of July. That sucked.
  9. Not home yet. Still at the hotel. One more quick thing to do then starting the return process. Weather here is fantastic
  10. Saw it yesterday. Near one lava field (that was rather old) you could still feel the heat being given off. One kinda neat thing was despite the bubbling and fountaining lava it was very quiet. It would make some whooshing noises at times but it was mostly silent.
  11. I lived. It was a very tiny piece. Maybe 1-2 cubic cm. Washed down by a shot of Black Death (a cheap schnapps they sell here). The food at the restaurant was very good. The owner of the place told us the whole history of the shark thing. Some people do at a piece each day for supposed health benefits. Nasty though.
  12. Heading out to a restaurant where I will possibly be tasting fermented shark. Forget the ‘vid, this might kill me
  13. Sadly leaving tomorrow. Just in time for a torch
  14. This afternoon car thermo was reading 19C. So 66F or so. Sun feels strong though. Plus it doesn’t set until after 10. Our hotel room (plus restaurants and stores) is very warm.
  15. One downside to Iceland. No A/C and they keep everything on “warm” since the heat is basically free. Not so good if temps are 18-22C.
  16. Anyway...going to do some Icelandic horse driving. Apparently these things have 5 speeds instead of the typical 4. And don’t call them ponies (even though I probably weigh more than some of them)
  17. None of us had a good camera. Just iPhones
  18. Not bad. Their roundabouts/rotaries are a bit different but not an issue. Also driving a stick for the first time in a few years (other than on occasion ). Thankfully the flat happened near a small town. If it had been in parts of yesterday or the day before we might have had issues.
  19. Hiked the volcano Pretty epic if not as good as May. Long walk up and down. Got a flat after leaving. Rental car had baloney skins on the wheels so not surprised. After cleaning up at the hotel had a decent lamb burger at an over priced outdoor restaurant. People watching in Reykjavik is interesting. Walking around the city we saw this : another restaurant Figured some would enjoy it. Carry on with the silliness
  20. Sorry about the crappy quality. This was taken out the car windshield. Just mile after mile of this.
