  1. It is that time of year that the South facing slopes are becoming bare but the North and shady areas still have deep snow. Any guess when my piles from the roof will totally melt? Still looking for my first 50F of the year. Don't think today will be it. 38F as of 11am and cloudiness coming in.
  2. After Brian responded I went back and looked and I lied. After fropa I got all the way up to 42.5F. Argghh, I slept through the warmest part of the whole system. Back down to a below freezing, windy day.
  3. What was your high? Mine was 41F. CAD rules!
  4. 36.7F Cloudy with extremely low visibility. Looks like our snow cover is not going anywhere fast. High was 40F Such a miserable day. I needed sunshine and warmth. I took the drone up late afternoon and quickly found spring lurking 700 feet above me.
  5. 39.8F still clouded over. Arggghhhh...
  6. I'm at 98". Very impressive since I am only 90 miles from Boston as the crow flies.. 38F at 3:20pm. Bright but cloudy. I flew my drone straight up to it's max 1640 feet above me. I broke out of the low clouds at 1500 feet into full sun. Got high wind warning on the drone even though there is no wind here at the surface. Wish the drone had a thermometer attachment. I need to look into that.
  7. Well it's past noon, raining and 32.8F I am not holding out for 50F nor is last nights snow going to melt much. A refreeze to glaciated tonight and tomorrow stays below freezing. Still waiting for my first 50F.
  8. 3" of snow last night. Actually there could have been a bit more because it was still snowing when I went to bed and it was raining when I woke up and still almost 3" Wet snow and 32.2F rain is destroying the birch. Those trees seem to have elastic memories so if the snow melts quickly they will be okay... I think... By the way this winter we had overwintering Bluebirds. Lots of them. There is one on the apple tree in the picture.
  9. Birch destroyer last night. Rain this morning is making it worse. Wish I could get the warm air up here fast. 3" last night 32.1F light rain now Dirt roads are very slippery and the town can't plow with the mud. The models saw this . I am surprised there was no WWA.
  10. 31.8F light snow. 2.5" if I measure on old snow. 2" if I measure on vars as the first hour didn't really stick much. Now The question will be do I get stuck in the '30s or low 40s tomorrow or does the warm front make it up here for a couple of hours to melt this mess?
  11. Good, (or bad) your getting snow too. 32.1F Light snow. About 1.5" ish
  12. Lots of weather today. I hope the tornadoes that form will miss towns and cities. On the cold side of things the models seem to be more bullish for a period of accumulating snow up here. Gray doesn't even have me in a Hazardous Weather Outlook area. Snow map says less than an inch. I'm 39/14F right now This could be a sneaky event this evening. Just cold rain tomorrow. CAD will win and my string of no 50F this year will continue. So close but so far.
  13. I'm watching this from afar in NH. I can not remember the last "high" risk. 2 questions. The next convective outlook would come out in 6 hours, right? My second questions is do they ever change convective outlooks with any special outlooks? I know the discussions come out more often.
  14. ...and then there have been seasons where SNE gets pummeled and we just suck cirrus storm after storm
  15. The front came through here with a short lived snow squall. About 1/2". This puts me at 95" on the season. Alex, are you keeping snowfall records? I see that on the snowfall thread that Phin and J Spin have just under 150". It looks like we are not over just yet. Unbelievable that I have not hit 50F yet this year.
  16. Wow. Mammoth Mountain received 20" more inches of snow last night. That broke their all time snowiest winter. 695" at the Main Lodge and 870" at the summit. What really impressed me is that their current snow depth at their main lodge 275 inches. 22 feet, 11 inches. Crazy. I wonder how wildlife gets around?
  17. It did flip the light snow up here late last night. About 3/4 of an inch.
  18. 2" new brings me to 93" on the season
  19. 30.2f light snow. Change to sleet for a while but it's gone back to snow. Actually snowing pretty good even though radar doesn't show much. Guessing about an inch and a half.
  20. 30.1F Light snow. We changed to snow grains then freezing drizzle and sleet. Now back to light snow and blowing snow.
  21. From Mammoth Mtn page 3/25 What struck me as 90" of water in the snowpack. I guess if New England averages 40" or so inches of rain per year the Sierra could have that much water in the snowpack. According to the old ski patrol records we have in-house, this season has now beaten out 2011 for inches of snowfall and 1969 for the amount of water that has fallen in the snowpack. As of now, there are over 90 inches of water recorded in the snow at Mammoth Pass. With more snow and cool days ahead over the next week who knows maybe the 700-inch mark at the 9000-foot level will be within reach. With all the snow on the ground, Mammoth Mountain announced on Tuesday that they plan to run for winter sports at the Main Lodge through at least the month of July. If there happens to be a cooler summer they plan to run longer and hopefully beat the closing day record set in 1995 on August 14th.”
