  1. I was just about to chime in and say that that storm may have also been the first time I witnessed Thundersnow...and I'm 13 years older than you. I was in my first year of Optometry school in Philly. Boy was I excited about that storm. I kept switching back and forth between my NOAA weather radio and Accuweather reports on KYW. During that storm Joel Meyers even did a few live updates. (He was one of the founders of Accuweather). Then there was Elliot Abrams and Joe Sobel. I'm not sure if JB came on during that storm. At the end of the storm Philly (at the airport) officially recorded 21.3" which broke the all-time record there of 21.0". That record was eventually eclipsed by one of the biggie storms some time after 2000. I remember I cut all my classes on that Friday because the storm was literally the only thing I could think about. A true and total weenie at the time.
  2. Enjoying the final burst of light snow now. This is the first daytime snow I've seen so far. With a temp of 36.3 it is simply disappearing once it hits the ground.
  3. Never had any sun here all day. Final snow total was 0.3" all of which fell before midnight. High today was only 40.3. Felt quite wintry.
  4. Well that was a short-lived event...lol. Less than 3 hours. The echoes are breaking up over Cumberland county now which has almost brought the snow to a halt. It's just a super-fine mist of snow. The temperature dropped to 32.0 degrees just before midnight. However, outside all grassy surfaces and mulch surfaces and car tops have a solid coating. I don't think I would be exaggerating when I say that 0.3" has officially fallen. It's now midnight, so at least a trace will be recorded for the 28th. Even this small coating looks beautiful, especially in front of my Christmas lights on the shrubs and 1 small tree. *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** On a totally different side-note, I continue to monitor temperatures up in Fairbanks. They've been having some pretty extreme cold (for November) there over the last few weeks. The temperature has only risen above zero, to +2F, for 2 hours early afternoon on the 26th. Other than that they have been continuously below zero both day and night for the last 10 days. Many days have had high temps only in the negative teen! The forecast for Sunday night is an unbelievable -36 degrees F. That temp is also very close to -36 degrees C as well. The warmest day forecast for the next 7 days is -7F with lows in the minus 20's. I'll have to ask my nephew in the air force up there if last winter was anything like this cold in November.
  5. Congrats! Enjoy it. At least our first snow of the season isn't a mix that goes over to rain! Oh yeah, now down to 32.9.
  6. Looking great out front underneath the street light. All mulch has now caved along with fallen leaves on the ground. Temp now 31.1. Humidity 93%. Almost no wind, very calm.
  7. The steady snow continues and my temp is slowly falling. It has dropped 0.8 degrees in the past hour and is now down to 33.4. Dew point now up to 31 degrees. Humidity stands at 90% so there is still some evap cooling possible. I expect to drop below 32 during the next hour.
  8. Wet bulbing is running out of time. Humidity is up to 85% with a dew point of 30 and a temp of 34.0. The dewpoint was 23 degrees back around 6:00pm and the temp was 32. I thought it was a lock to be at or drop further below freezing when the snow started.
  9. I'm rooting for you. I know how excited you are having waited since back in April. Good luck!
  10. I can confirm that the first snowfall of the season is underway. Interestingly, as it began the temp rose from 32 to 34 where it is right now. However, part of my cement patio that does not get any sun is covered in white! Flakes are decent size, too. Let's see if I can make it to 1/2" by morning.
  11. Nothing but 100% sunshine so far today. Unfortunately, my weather station is located in the shade because it is on the north-facing side of my home. From about a week ago the sun's progressively lowering angle keeps me in the shade the entire day. I won't go back to partial sun coverage until the end of January. Frustrating, but that's the layout of my property, which is the middle unit of 3 townhouses with a small back yard. Only option would be to put it up on my roof, which I would never do since the roof would contaminate the high temps anyway. All that to say it's only 59 now, but in the shade. I'm sure you could tack on 3 or 4 more degrees if it were in the sun. I can at least take solace that my low temperatures are accurate all year long.
  12. Low this morning was 28.6. 39 here now with a dense overcast. There's been no sun yet today. I don't know about reaching 60.
  13. Will do! I forgot to mention that I am actually on the barrier island, Hutchinson Island, sandwiched between the ocean and Indian River along A1A. I must say that the shoreline has really taken a horrific beating with erosion over the years. There's not much distance between land and water like there used to be years (decades) ago. Of course I realize that this issue is commonplace up and down the entire east coast of the US. From what I've heard, each coastal town is financially responsible for the upkeep and maintaining of its portion of the shoreline. Sadly, these towns simply do not have the budgets to do the necessary maintenance.
  14. Hi Guys! I’m coming to you from Jensen Beach Florida where I arrived yesterday for my annual Florida vaca. Jensen Beach is just south of Port St. Lucie and about 40 miles north of West Palm Beach. Currently it’s cloudy with a temperature of 82 degrees and a light breeze. Will be down here until next Wednesday. I’m usually down here during the weekend where we return to standard time, which I love for all the same reasons several of you were also mentioning. As far as low temps back home, my low yesterday morning was 29 with a thick white coating of frost on all the car tops and grass. I was more amazed with this morning’s low of 25 degrees. I think the low forecast for this morning when I left yesterday was around 30. That’s it for now. Take care!
  15. Did anyone have over 2.5" for this one? I ended the day (10/29) with 2.57" of rain. It just would not stop here. Heavy for much of the time.
  16. I believe I was the jackpot winner with 35.6". Biggest single event of my lifetime. I assume you are talking about Jan'16 storm?
  17. It continues to pour here with no letup. My last report I had 0.84". I've added almost another inch to the total at 1.76". Think I'll break 2" almost certain.
  18. Today's conditions are reminiscent of Memorial Day. Rain, wind, and temps stuck near 50 degrees. Yuck! Anyway, it's 50.5 degrees here now and I've recorded 0.84" of rain so far with intensity now ranging between moderate to occasionally heavy. One thing I haven't seen many talking about was how dry the month of October has been, up until today. Through yesterday my month-to-date precip total was a meager 1.41". Looks like I might double that amount by tomorrow. >>Edit...one other thing I forgot to mention was that we are now less than 2mb away from 1000, and likely to go sub 1000 over the next few hours.
  19. 43.2 for my low this morning making it the coldest of the season. Previous coldest was 44.8 almost a month ago on September 24th.
  20. At 8:40pm my temperature has only very slowly dropped to 75 degrees. The dewpoint is 68 degrees. High today was right when I made my earlier post back around 2:00pm which was 83.5 degrees. It looks like we're all going to go into shock when temps drop into the 40s tomorrow night with winds gusting to 25mph and wind chills are in the 30s. Sunday is pretty cold around here with highs only around 60 but with winds gusting to 25mph again. The A/C is on right now. I hear it humming outside. But it l most likely will need to turn the heat back on, if not Sunday morning then Monday morning almost for sure. I just wish the weather would be normal and we could enjoy the slow progression of temps downward. Other than 1 lonely sugar maple in my development which is nearly completely red leafed there are almost no other trees showing signs of fall. Maybe by Halloween the color peaks?
  21. Wow! Temp with full sunshine is up to 83 degrees with an unbelievable dew point of 72 and heat index of 88! Please let this end soon. About to turn the A/C back on as it is up to 75.
  22. I mentioned back on Tuesday that my low temp had remained at or above 64.0 degrees for two straight days. Well, incredibly, that streak has continued another two more days and we will break 100 hours above 64.0 in a few hours. My low this morning was 64.0. I can't ever remember it staying this warm at night for this many days in a row. Crazy!
  23. Why, thank you for thinking of me. That bolded day is literally the day I was born! My mother used to tell me about how warm it had been in the days leading up to my birth. She went to the hospital not even wearing a light jacket.
  24. Pretty unusual temps both yesterday morning and again this morning. The spread between daily high and daily low was less than 2 degrees until around 9:30am yesterday morning with the low of 64.8 and the high of 66.0. Then again this morning at 10:50am the current temp is 65.3. So far today the high since midnight has been 65.8 and the low 64.0. That spread is very unusual for this time of the year. Today is more dramatic with this spread of 1.8 degrees still ongoing near 11:00am. The morning lows of 64 for 2 consecutive days in a row is pretty amazing. Finally, I've remained at or above 64.0 degrees continuously since Sunday morning around 10:00am which is now 49 hours in duration and will likely continue until at least tonight I would think.
  25. 83.3 my high for today. After running the heat the past 3 mornings I had to switch back to A/C this afternoon as the heat index hit 88. Yuck! I was soooo enjoying the past 3 mornings. Hopefully that returns soon. >>PS...Unlike some of you around here I have absolutely no problem switching between A/C and heat at any time of the year...or in the case today...within the same day.
