imo the most damage is going to come from the burst of winds on the backside of the low after we get 3-5" of rain

I dread strong W or NW winds, we have 2 huge old trees behind the house that are vulnerable to the directions and the house would be in the way as they go down. I hope you're wrong but I don't think you are.

  2. @wdrag some of the smaller rivers are already bankfull like the Croton River from it's northern end right to the Croton Reservoir and the Housatonic in Western CT. When they reach these levels it doesn't take much to send them over the banks.

Yep, not good news in terms of wind here with the last minute west trends. It’ll diminish the rain threat here, but places that upslope on SE winds will probably get 3-5”

    That's me :(

Riverdale, up along van Cortland park, is defined the coldest snowiest area of the city. It’s basically a different climate zone. Lots of open space (van cortland park is huge) and some hilly elevation, basically an extension of southern westchester.

There used to be a ski area with rope tow in the park.

yesterday they were saying rain by morning 7 or 8 am did not happen so i managed to not only go to the supermarket but manage to do a 2 mile walk without rain..

Maybe there. I was supposed to be mostly dry until lunchtime but it was soggy at 7 and drizzling by 8.

This fog could go away. Hoping for no wind. Expecting 3-4" of rain.

I think people easily forget that NYC averages a grand total of 4.7" of snow in December. that can easily be made up given that the pattern should become more favorable late in the month... not exactly worried for the rest of the winter given the weak SPV and the fact that a -NAO December correlates very well to strong blocking for the rest of the year

    Ninos are backloaded winters

As long as the Pacific warm air pump shuts down...

  7. Yeah I've reached the point where I'd much rather have warm temps if it's not going to be snowy. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be getting a few inches of snow every few days and be consistently cold from ~ 12/20-3/15 but I really don't want to pay to heat the house and deal with the wintry stuff outside anymore if it's not gonna be really wintry.

It looks per the Euro that we're going to get into a clipper type pattern for a significant period of time. This means a milder day or two here and there but also repeated incursions of colder air with the risk of some light snow when the the clipper storm systems move across and there is some cold air still in place. Some of these systems may stay south of the NYC Metro but others could drop over the area from the north and west. As long as it lasts, these systems generally do not bring heavy or even moderate precipitation to the are so precip amounts should be near to perhaps a bit below normal. But we'll experience some cold and who knows, maybe we'll get lucky with a dusting to 2" at some point.

    WX/PT

It's been years since anyone has forecast clippers around here. That's so nice to see.
