Always surprised how busy the last weekend in OCT usually is here with peepers.
Not much to look at..
Next town over from me, Sturbridge, MA is always inundated with peepers this time of year. I used to like it when I tended bar, I'd clean up for a couple weeks in October.

This, a thousand times. Since Cool Spruce had the stroke (can it be a dozen years?) I've had more conversations here with Jeff than anyone else, and it's not close. Now he's dealing with yet another personal tragedy while in shock for what happened a few miles to his north. Stay strong, Jeff; others in your family need you.
You can tell just from interacting with him here that's he's such a good dude, really down to earth salt of the earth type.

We still don't know if he targeted those he shot. However, if he didn't kill himself, he is obviously an angry, unstable individual and could strike again somewhere. That's the worrisome part of all this.
Didn't he leave a suicide note to his son? I haven't read all posts so not sure if this has been discussed.

Surrounded by them, I've been on the low side last couple of days, I was in Worcester earlier, it was much warmer.

Spoke with a good friend of mine that i bowled with and he played corn hole with Rob at Schmenngees in a league this past winter, He also bowled in the Weds night league at sparetime so now i know why he chose both places.
I know the lanes, I bowled there when I was on the tour. Such a sad day, hope they catch this guy soon.

Which brings to mind my greatest personal disappointment that I will take to my grave-being in Los Angeles for the blizzard of 78. Keeping hope alive.
Hopefully we get a bigger one in the next couple of years.

Golf is pretty much year round in this area now. More and more places are staying open, as long as you are willing to walk.
Even when it does snow, it melts in a few days usually anyway. If you don’t mind walking and playing in somewhat chilly weather, you lose probably, at most, like 20 winter days here.
Other than that, tee it up.
I remember golfing New Years eve here in 2008 or maybe 2007.

So then discuss the details . Cold all week, freezes for all, first flakes etc., what does it look like? Instead of 70 posts on old snow events .. let’s discuss the future
Freeze at the beginning of November for most of us that haven't had one.

We’ve also been disproportionately warm compared to many other areas of the country as well. No doubt a CC signal in the background, but there’s definitely some short term fluctuations that are enhancing the background signal compared to the Plains for example.
Even going up north during the 80s wasn't all that great. Went to Sugarloaf in the early 80s and they had a lousy pack and icy conditions. I don't think we saw snow on the ground until we were an hour away from the mountain. That's when I learned to ski on ice.

2019-2020: 44.9
2020-2021: 77.7
2021-2022: 53.6
2022-2023: 47.2
For some reason it seems worse, I know I didn't do as well as Worcester but I'm usually close.

Yes sir lol…my parents said the same thing. Funny sh*t.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s so I'm one of those, when I was a kid, we had snow up to our waist. You seem to forget the bad years mixed in and there's a few. When I was a bit older and got into skiing, that was the 80s which sucked.

Not around here they haven't been....the dryness is the ultimate killer over interior SNE for winter snowfall.
For ORH, the 1984-1992 period had 4 (!!) winters below 40" including a low of 28.1" in 1988-89. In the past decade, they have had zero winters below 40" with a low of 44.9" in 2019-2020.
Even a warmer spot like KBOS saw a much worse streak as well....1984-1992 for BOS had 5(!!!) winters below 30" with 3(!!) below 20". In the past decade, they've seen 3 winters below 30" with 2 of them below 20"....and you could probably write off one of those below 30" as fake since it was the year when they measured on Deer Island sewer plant and recorded 27.4" when everyone else had at least 35"+ around them. The only futility BOS excelled at in the most recent decade compared to the 1980s was the lowest season was slightly lower (12.4" last year vs 15.1" in '88-89)....but overall, that 1984-1992 period was a lot worse.
Will, what are Worcester's total snowfall the last 4 years?
