It happens fairly often here.
I know its happened, just can't remember the last one, we had three sucky years though and I don't have the best memory. I remember a good one in the 90's where we got a few inches and it froze solid. PIA to move it.

Why does this one storm have multiple names, and who names them?
The NWS gives storms names but in memory of James from the Cape we named it the James blizzard.

Definitely more societal impacts with rain to ice to cement snow to fluff from RT 2 south. That scenario is trouble
When's the last time we had a rain to snow that had a decent accumulation?

There was a poster that stayed on Plum Island, I bet it was pretty wild out there, I haven't seen him post since before the storm.

My wife said it was -4 at 5am, it warmed by the time I got up to 3.

Don't remember the last time we had a rain to ice to snow that was significant on the frozen end.

We may have a good couple of weeks if things break our way looking at the models. We're due for a good stretch.

1st below reading on my Davis this AM. -1.7F.
Radiate? I've been below just once but have been in low single digits a few times, I'm on a hill so I don't radiate.

The fact that we're 4 days out and no one's started a thread tells you all there is to know.
Congrats to all on your restraint.
Well you always have Pit 2 to go to.

My aunt and uncle in Princeton, MA had no power for 12-13 days...got it back Xmas Eve that year.
That's right it was right before Christmas, I remember having an appt in Fitchburg and the only sound you heard were the generators for the lucky few that had one.

My cousin lived in Dracut at the time...she had to come stay with us for like a week because it was like a warzone...no power for a long time.
Lunenburg was the worst, I think they went 10 days without power.

What is that 20+ up near Brattleboro and near the Quabbin? Those can’t be right.I noticed that but I think it's the numbers running over each other and makes it look like that but it's not. The numbers are all bunched up. It's a 2. something and a 4.6 over each other.

I don't mind it TBH....the time spent blogging/snowfall ratio has been excruciating this season...with the family returning on Wednesday, I would not mind a non event.
Do the wife and kids love snow?

With lead times D5+ all it is ENS all the way. They tend to bounce less in both strength and location. You'll have a better handle on situation and less angst.
Seems like you're missing this stuff, I know you had to move down there but this is the fun part of winter.

My 12" is down to 9-10 already except for the drifts that are 20"

EURO/UK show a snower.
GFS/CMC show a rainer to mixed bag.
If you extrapolate the NAM it looks more snowy than rain.

Most of the snow fell on 2 days....not exactly a snowy winter despite the total amount of snow.
No but most of us have a decent pack and it's mid winter cold out so it's better than what we started with.

The I-91 corridor from Springfield to Brattleboro is generally not favorable for big snow relative to eastern areas.
When I worked in Agawam in the early 90's they actually got some good storms and a deep pack. I remember inspecting a house in 16 acres and the snow was above my waist. But typically they're too far west.

Well, that would be fitting since nobody in the Boston metro area thinks anything exists west of Worcester.
Just mountains and woods and some wild natives

I explicitly said that I was scared to death of getting "Boxing Dayed", which dropped a foot of drifted baking soda on me. That is precisely what happened here.
I was never okay with that...in fact, I detested the potential so much, I made a verb out of that analog.
I got half that on Boxing day, it happens to someone almost every storm. I only got 12 today too.

I got between 2-3 more inches after I thought it was over, I'll go out and get a final measurement once it stops for good.

They'll be more chances this year, don't throw in the towel over one bad storm.
