Hey Gene…can you vouch for a wildlife rehabilitator in our area? I found a squirrel in my road that was hit, but still alive. The only visible sign of injury is a little blood on a rear foot, but it isn’t really moving anything from the waist down except a slight movement of the other leg a few times. Upper half looks good. I have it in a box in the basement right now.

The closest one (Henniker) has some iffy reviews.

There's one near me Brian in Cape Neddick, don't know much about it though.

There was a paper I read a few years ago about the use of the RONI and how it is a better indicator of the true state versus the traditional ONI. There were multiple examples used, but there was one that looked at the 2015/2016 event, which per ONI was super strong. Based on forecasts and guidance for a super strong EL Nino certain measures were taken (I want to say it was western Africa) in preparations for impacts to precipitation, etc and ultimately took too aggressive measures and it cost some industries alot of money. But per the RONI, the event was not nearly as strong and their weather for the winter season was more reflective of that of a moderate event. Essentially, the study indicated if they used the RONI they wouldn't have taken as aggressive measures.

    I prefer MACARONI

So the squirrels...absolutely huge around here this year!  After such a dry summer/Fall I thought they'd be their typically ragged and ratty little selves but they're not by any stretch.  More like Chihuahua-sized and furry as I've ever seen.  A selective mating outcome?  Genetic anomaly?  Local aberration?  Or...are we in for a season to remember?!  :snowing:

Even with the lack of acorns here, the squirrels are very fat.

After a very long year and a half and just seeing if a full recovery would happen, the recommendation was finally made to go the route of a doggy wheel chair. Ordered last month and got it yesterday!

    Dogs adapt, looks good Paulie.

Hophornbeam, hickory, white oak are up there with black locust, but Osage orange is tops, also the premier wood for bow construction and perhaps the weirdest fruit of any American tree.

Power blinked last evening, now gusting 30+ which is decent here in the woods.

    October numbers:
Avg max:    58.8   +3.1     Highest:  82 on the 6th.  That eclipses the 80 on 10/9/11 for October's warmest.
Avg min:     35.4   +0.4    Lowest:  25 on the 10th.  The mildest min was 50 on the 20th.

    Precip:     3.69"   -1.70"    Wettest:  1.16" on the 8th.  Also had 1.14" on the 31st.

    No flakes were observed.

10 of the first 11 days were sunny and the average diurnal range was 31.4°.  The rest of the month had 4 sunny, 6 partly cloudy and 10 cloudy days, with the diurnal range 18.9°.

I forgot about hophorbeam, not a lot of it where I lived, would have loved to have a couple cords back in 2015

yup doing mine on Sunday. gonna be a disaster

that's a great plan, until the gusts blow them back out of the woods.

I had that problem at my last house, the windy days never blew towards the woods so I'd have to wait and have twice as much work when the wind calmed down.
