The funny part is we got the huge blocking to verify…but as some of us said before that pattern, nobody cares about longwave patterns in here, they care of it delivers snow or not. The pattern can set up like models showed but if the big snowstorm doesn’t happen, it’s irrelevant.

Will, you always mention longwave patterns, what do we look at for that?

I give December a solid B- here. 11.5 inches isn't bad for this area, just wish the warmth stayed away

I give it a C in my area, some snow, some cold but the inevitable torch we've become accustomed too. Looking forward to a much better January.

I made it 2+ years but got COVID this week.  I had two rough colds over the past year that weren't COVID, but this one has smoked me.  I cannot stop sweating, ha.  Just pouring sweat all the time like I'm running a marathon.  Fever builds then breaks, then builds and breaks.  Or my body is trying to flush my body and get rid of something.  For the past 3 mornings I've had to strip the bed and wash the sheets, just soaked in sweat and then chills.  My wife woke me up the other night thinking I was going to have a seizure or stroke, she said my face was just running sweat while I slept, like I was hiking the mountain on a humid July day.   Never seen anything like this.  I have no idea what's going on, just keep hydrating.

Hope it gets better, you taking anything?

I guess I expect 5 to 6 weeks of winter, counting the cold we just had as 2 weeks of the 5 or 6.

i think we had 6 weeks of winter last year since December was a rout and most ofJanuary could not pop a storm.

Could still get 8 more weeks depending.

Got a few emails from courses saying they're opening tomorrow. Got a feeling it would be a zoo but it's awful tempting.

I have too, if I didn't have appts I might head out for nine. Only good thing about this weather, we can still golf. In 2007 we golfed New Year's Eve and then got buried short after.

I only say Lake Tahoe because I grew up out there and thats where we spent a lot of time in the winter......I would love a cabin at Kirkwood or Alpine Meadows......anywhere really.......Mammoth would be cool too but thats BF central sierra and far from everything....

Id stay closer to home and go up to PF country. His winters are good 90% of the time.

It’s around there…..better than being down on the shore……but we do get sucker holed being in the CTRV…..still….been shit lately

Early 90s winters were good in the Valley but generally it's not as good as East or West for that matter.

Wow, nice that it's black. Paradise Pond in LSF was crusty, except for thin part that just froze over... Stayed away from there.

Yeah in your area, for sure. I always go out with a spud bar, ice picks, and wear a life jacket early season while I check thickness before setting up. Only way to be safe. Can't just go slap on your skates and beeline it for the other shore like some jabronies.

That's what we did as kids, one of my friends fell up to his neck, on a 5 degree day, by the time we got him home he was an icicle.

Just go sledding. Basically free, no need to drive far away, just as fun.

I saw some of the big lakes with a solid coating, the smaller ones must be getting thick enough. A lot depends on size and deepness, but Webster Lake has a solid coating.

Merry Christmas, got our power back at 9am this morning.  Them guys are heros man!! We had 8 people sitting around the woodstove all night and it was frankly nicer than a regular old christmas but I reall want to cook today so Im glad it came back and this folks sacrificing Christmas with their families is jsut unreal.  That being said I'd probably work it to for that bonus bucks they better be getting!

My friend worked for the electric company in my area, they get mucho bucks when there's an outage in winter, even more around Holidays.

Marthas Vineyard is getting rocked today, their own private little snowstorm. I have family out there and been there many times, they usually get f'd so many times in winter so im happy for them. Reports of 6-7" as of early this morning till about noon. With that band sinking back south, they are back in the mod/heavy snow. I bet some locals will pick up 10-12+ there.
