Don or anyone able to find the data, surprised not to see any dates from late Jan 1977 (the infamous Buffalo blizzard) in that list, what were the amounts then? I remember seeing news stories (out of Buffalo as I lived in range of WBEN etc) talking about six feet of snow and the city cut off etc. Was it more of a wind factor with that, or do you find any missing days there (probably 26th-31st Jan and possibly 1st-2nd Feb). Maybe it evades the list by spreading out a lot of snowfall in 12" type amounts over five days?

Looking at that list, I think the Jan 1902 and March 1936 storms were probably entirely synoptic and not lake effect (based on Toronto having similar record amounts on those days, and also inspection of historical weather maps), and the Jan 11 1982 storm was probably a mix of 6-8" of storm snowfall and subsequent lake effect.

I read somewhere only a foot or so fell from the sky but there was feet of powder on the lake that got blown into the land. The wind was really the story in that one and the duration.

Early in the season. People are anxious to get things rolling 3 weeks ahead of climo. It’s a pretty nice look for late November, but you still need a lot of things to line up.

There will likely be more chances into December though with this pattern. Looks pretty active.

It'd be nice if we get a start like 2007 just without the grinch storm that wiped us out right before Christmas, we were on our way to building a nice base.

Actually with the trails it was easy every day. 2015 was the most fun winter ever with my pups.

Mine too, I remember posting about my new pup jumping from one pile over the path to the next pile and you posted the video above. Hope my pup lives long, she's slowing down now.

We rescued Tigger from a kill shelter in 2014. He was a little puppy with a little attitude lol. Tigger brought us joy and happiness for 8 years. Unfortunately today he will pass due to aggressive osteosarcoma. Run Tigger run.

That's North Country winter vibes right there.

I appraised a house in the town next to me last winter and they had a huge rink, probably about twice the size of the one's pictured. Both his kids are really good hockey players so they take it seriously.

Instead of waiting, wanting, wishing for first snow.
Y'all (I think that's how to say it) come on down to the Cape and watch the most powerful rocket launch into the heavens.
It's 60 miles to my ESE. Put it on your bucket list, most assured you will not be disappointed.

Appearing first snows for most is going to have to wait. This is not the event.

Not for most but we're getting closer.

Wow!!....that is far too warm for my liking.  I like my home to be cool during the fall/winter.

My family room pushes 80 when I get the stove cooking, the other rooms are low 70's, it's just that one room that gets warm, all the pets congregate there.

Yeah Hubbdave to Berks. When a place like Tolland is going toe to toe with Weymouth and Taunton….not sure we consider that interior. :(

I think there's 4 sections of New England, Northern , Central , Southern and coastal. Don't we have this discussion every year?

I’m with you… the Weather Channel forecast maps back in the day were the holy grail.  Seeing that 12”+ color was as invigorating as anything lol.  Then wait for the Local on the 8’s to see the huge snowflake with his little buddy and just the word “Snow” under it.  Like a drug in middle school back then… just wait another 10 minutes to get the next hit when the Local on the 8’s starts up again.

I used to like Don Kents map with the snowflakes he made on the chalkboard or whatever kind of   board it was.

Patriots had snow games in back to back weeks that season. The December 14, 2003 storm was a solid front ender that got them during game time.

Then of course the AFC championship game against the Colts was in light snow. A week earlier was like 0F in the divisional round against the Titans. January 2004 cold snaps were epic.

Then the next year another snowstorm during the divisional round game against the Colts again. I remember Corey Dillon running all over them in the snow that game.

They had some epic games in snow and cold in the early 2000's, I think it was pretty cold for that Colts game in the snow too.
