  1. Backpacked in a mile and a half and camped at 5000’ overnight. No clue on temps but put my new 5-degree sleeping bag to the test and it shined. Was a beautiful day covering 6 miles today even though I didn’t hear a single turkey. Here’s a pic of camp yesterday evening.
  2. Fished some wild water around 4000’ for maybe an hour but no natives caught it or seen. 4-5 miles and 1700’ elevation loss/gain has me beat. Ready for next Saturday though!
  3. Was a bit breezy and chilly yesterday morning above 5000’ while listening for turkeys gobbling. Headed back up there later this morning to pick out an area for a campsite for next Friday evening, scout for the turkey opener next Saturday and do a little wild water fishing.
  4. Light, fine mix on my side of Haywood
  5. Off and on grapuel showers and snow flizzards here lol. Trace on the ground, working on an official “dusting”.
  6. Flurries starting to fly here in Robbinsville, another Friday, another work day where flakes are flying.
  7. I like to fly fish for then or even when using my spinning gear I’ll throw flies. Trout magnets work good too and I don’t see why a brown wouldn’t hammer that. Bet it’s killer on the smallies.
  8. Mountain posters fishing trip in order it sounds like. I’ll probably hit some wild water Saturday after doing some scouting for turkey season. and take the boat out on Santeetlah on Sunday to finally check it out.
  9. Wish that band would have set up shop over my area of Haywood lol. Going with 1.5“ total from what I measured. 1” during the day and then we had .5” overnight after I got back from making a run into town. Beautiful morning though! Either right at 10” for the year or knocking on the door of it.
  10. Picked up a quarter to half inch Overnight it looks like.
  11. Congrats on your guys in that band, skies are clear here now. Hoping for round 2 later tonight.
  12. Well that didn’t last long, back to small flakes. About an inch in spots that stay shaded and half an inch in spots that don’t. Good base for tonight though if we get some good rates and flake size. Might hit that 2-3” forecast.
  13. Light snow here since I’ve been home, flake size is anemic but we have about a half inch accumulated so far.
  14. Around 1” at Topton, huge flakes coming through the gorge and basically accumulation stopped when I got to the NOC until I got to Bryson City and a trace to dusting there. Light snow with tiny dendrites from there all the way home with little accumulation until coming up the mountain to Balsam Gap. Light dusting here with lots of tiny flakes flying. Wife said it was instant accumulation when it started due to big flakes and coming down hard. Just need to get dendrite growth fired up and get better size.
  15. Starting to accumulate in Andrews, calling it a day and heading home. Gonna be interesting going over the gap in Topton I bet.
  16. Moderate snow now in Andrews, keeps getting heavier.
  17. Went from filtered sun and seeing mountain tops to this in 15 minutes.
  18. Working in Andrews and can see the snow creeping over the Snowbirds north of town. Drive back home is gonna be interesting come 2 pm.
  19. Some flurries here. Can already see moisture banking up against higher peaks.
  20. I’ll cash out on that map with the 2-3” zone it paints me in but I’m not expecting it unless the orientation sets up perfectly.
  21. Impressed with the coverage from this event, some amount of snow on the ground along 74 from Balsam Gap to Marble, mostly in the dusting to half inch range. Wished I was fishing the Nantahala when I drove through the gorge, picture perfect winter day with water cleared up and not running quite as high. Trout will be biting!
  22. Oh yea. We get shadowed by Lynn Lowry badly since we are at the base. I’d love to be at the one house I wanted above 5000’ in the Mt Sterling area next to park. Bet they got hammered. I’ll take anything I get in flow snow due to how we are situated, we actually managed our largest snow this year in the one event where trajectory was better for us, 2.5”.
  23. Congrats Met, Joe and Buckethead. Light snow here, about 1/4” of Fresh accumulation but you can tell the first dusting melted and froze as well as the wind blew it around so maybe closer to 1/2” total from when it started last night to now if I had measured the correct way with a snowboard and by the interval. Wife had to drive to Asheville at 3:30 am and said it was snowing hard from here to there but nothing on the way back. Adding my penny to the piggy bank. 1.5” to go to hit double digits for our first full winter season here, I‘m gonna be confident and think we can do it by the end of April.
  24. Stopped here for the time being, solid dusting on everything but my mud yard ha
