I still have painful memories of an event a few years ago. Looked good for a big Charlotte snow.... went to dinner and huge flakes were flying. Felt good about my forecast. Walked out of dinner to head to the hotel..... and sleet was falling. Knew it was over then.
That's the event that I vowed to never take the NAM's warm nose projections lightly.
I think it was the ‘14 storm, @BullCityWx was reporting huge flakes just piling up down in Ft Mill and there I was sitting a couple degrees colder yet all I have was a mighty blizzard of pea sized at best flakes. Same storm, same precip shield, just was stuck with what had to be lackluster moisture transport in the dendrite growth zone. Then it switched to sleet and we had 4” on concrete and a local minima I think. The Belmont/Mt Holly/Western Meck below Mountain Island earned that surprise overperformer the other week!

Prior to this winter, I don't think there has been a more prolific screwzone in the region than the Charlotte metro....especially western and southern Charlotte metro. It's nice to finally see that reversed a bit.
So true, when I lived over by the airport on the river we kept getting shafted with either terrible moisture in the dendrite growth region or the dreaded warm nose.

Man I hate you missed this. I busted on the low end but that's a good thing! Hunter did great with his forecast. It's absolutely beautiful here. We have almost as much as we did two weekends ago.
I experienced an overachiever out hunting in Wyoming last year so it all equals out lol. Hopefully there will be a 95 runner before the end of our season so we have a mountain region wide 8-12”+ storm from Murphy to Jefferson and valleys to ridge tops. I must have brought the mojo with me when I moved back lol. Been a crazy month post-Christmas after that horrible December.

Awesome Met! I was thinking 3” was gonna be high end but based on what you are reporting I’m guessing 6-8” at my place. Busted into the single digits with a wind chill in the negative teens. I’m jealous of you guys, hate I missed it!

Dang hate I am missing it. 11.5 degrees at the house, I’m gonna need you to get a measurement Met!

Went from a temp of 38.1 at 12:30 to 26.4 at 4:30. That’s a decent little drop, how low can we go.

Yeah the weather is pretty cool around the county. Seems like we are getting downsloped here in Canton but it's snowing in Bethel, Crabtree, Maggie. You have some elevation and you are good. You can literally see the snow line in town on the mountains.
Currently sunny and upper 40’s here in Western Oklahoma, headed to the 60’s this weekend. I’m not planning on bringing any of that back with me until April at least lol.

32.5 on my weather station, I need to invest in some outdoor cameras.

I’ll take coming home to 2” at my place and feel like I stole money, even though I live above 3500’ I’m not confident in breaking the 3” mark.

So out here, yesterday it was 1/2” to 1” of accumulation expected today and now they’ve put us in an advisory for 1-3” today, use that info as you may.

Upstream here in western Oklahoma this week, light snow forecast tonight and tomorrow from one of the pieces of energy that leads to the storm back home. I’ll let y’all know if it overperforms here, might have implications down the line for there. Still had some snow hanging around at the house (surprising because of the WSW slope I’m on) when I left yesterday morning but yesterday’s 47 and today already being 45 I’m sure it’s bit the dust.

A trace overnight, low of 17 and sitting at 18 now. Trees look amazing.

I’m gonna need the globals to delay that storm to starting after I get home on the 31st so I can enjoy it instead of try to get up the mountain in the immediate aftermath

About 3000’ seems to be the cutoff for fresh snow on the trees on my drive into town. Light snow was starting back up at home when I left, had a quarter inch on the frozen ground.

22, light snow and a dusting.

Some tiny flurries when I left just now, sitting at freezing. Nothing out in upper Crabtree besides the flurries, looks like Chambers Mtn and it’s ridge line along with Crabtree Bald was the stopping point, both have some fresh snow up top and Crabtree Bald is currently getting a snow shower it looks like along with back towards TN.

Dry here, holding steady at 34. Looks like snow showers falling just to my south when I look out the window.

Engulfed in fog now. Watched it slowly work it’s way over and down the one mountain and now up mine.

34.7 and rain here, thought I’ve seen the occasional flake mixed it. Temp has been steadily dropping.

Is it just me or has there been like no northwest flow snow this year except behind our big storm? I remember years in the 2000s where there were a dozen or more events and clippers that gave the border areas great seasons. The past few years it seems to be getting less and less. Has to be killing the resorts too.
Last year was decent, this year there’s been maybe two or three events and that includes Monday.

16 this morning here on my side of Haywood, wind is finally calm. A couple days to get ready for the next system, whatever it brings.

Buckethead, I am in love with all the pictures you post. You have got to be in one of the best spots in the southeast for upslope snow and just awesome wildlife. I follow you on Instagram as well. I need to come stay with you on one of these NWFS setups. Truly enjoy your pictures and posts.
I’ve got a buddy with an Airbnb up there if you are serious about it sometime, don’t know if it’s up as high as Buckethead though.

Awesome photos @Buckethead , those are magazine worthy and really showcase how late the rut runs up here in the mountains. Weather, botanical and animal species, animal behavior, etc., we really an entirely different beast than the rest of the state. This week is setting up to be something we talk about a while.

Snow has shut off here for now and t he sun is out, dark clouds to my NW towards Crabtree Bald. Up to 25, let’s see if the roads are better than yesterday. Forgot to add, had 2.5” on my board I cleared after the sleet and measure 9-10” in spots I thought didn’t have drift issues, so I feel good that 9.5-10” is about what our total ended up as.

Potential 1/28-1/30 2022 winter storm
in Southeastern States

I can’t remember, it was sometime in that time frame of ‘14 to ‘15 as my wife and I had yet to put down either of our first two dogs. If I could find the pics, I’d know the exact date.
