  1. 21 this morning, crisp perfect morning with the .25-.5” of snow I got yesterday still coating everything.  Might drive up to Max Patch later to see how they did.  Hopefully can get another light coating tomorrow night, I’ll penny (can’t even calm that amount a nickel) my way to double digits this thus-far anemic season if I have to!

  2. Highly suggest the mountain and foothills crew checkout the pattern thread in the TN Valley forum if you aren’t already, Carver does great write-ups.  Outside of Larry (GAwx) on our side, their pattern discussion blows our forum’s away right now. Lot more info discussed regardless of good or bad pattern, lot less whining.

I know that short of a distance and that big of a temp spread is ridiculous.  We had a heavy frost also. Almost looked like it snowed on the truck.... These microclimates can get crazy around here. I think what helps me is that we are in a bowl but the valley is directly in front of me. I think that helps to filter the cold in and out for us. We don't get trapped with the inversion in my opinion.  But all that could just be BS lol.

It makes sense in my head lol.  A year in and I’m still learning the nuances of my new location.

Beautiful! Had a low of 19 this morning...

Good Lord, at 7 am it was 38.7 over here.  I know you are in a bowl but either the inversion setup crazy fast in our 300’ elevation difference or one didn’t setup over on your ridge.   Saw 24 down in the valley last night while my weather station was reading 34 (thinking it could have been reading a few degrees to warm as the snow was stiffened up and melt water was frozen and my usually accurate truck thermometer was reading 28).

We are a bit off from you I think because of one of the bands that just set in overnight.  We are getting hammered now with heavy snowfall.  It might help im in a bowl also with this NW flow.  Might pick up another inch if this continues.

Yea I figured last night the ridge from Chambers Mtn over to the Glades was probably getting it good based on how it was snowing between Lake Junaluska and Crabtre and then it was hardly snowing here.  Friends on Chambers have over 6”.  Good first event of the year!

  6. Just got home from Waynesville, little adventure back but not too bad.  1-2” in town, roads were covered in shaded spots and over bridges there but slushy and mainly wet otherwise.  74 was just wet.  Maybe around 2” Iron Duff and Crabtree, closer to 3 as you got out towards the base of my mountain.  209 was covered but not completely, paved road out to my place was completely snow covered however. Measured 4.5” on my deck.  Actually had tapered off to just light snow at my place, heaviest was Crabtree/Iron Duff area of 209. Would love to squeeze out another 1.5” between now and when the flow shuts off but not sure I will, have to see what morning brings.

I know the feeling. Last year I had to replace the vacuum pump and brake booster in my truck after dislocating my knee during the big storm on 1/13.

What’s sad is my work truck has a dead battery and I kept forgetting to take my keys so I could swing by my camper and get my battery charger out of the locked storage on it.  What I get for procrastinating, I would at least have one vehicle to drive.
