Robby likey. That discussion reminds me that I should post a couple of the blowing snow and drifting photos I took the day after the blizzard.

Did we clear out last night? Looks like I dropped down to 7.4*
We must have for a bit but it was cloudy when I got up this morning around 7:30am.
-
Wow, don't think I got out of the 20s.. Remained under the clouds all night with dps in the 20s too. I say KMGJ hit 1 overnight!
I'm at 12 right now. KMGJ's temp was offline for a bit this week and has appeared to be a bit funky at times but it's not far off now or fixed since I got to 4 and I'm just down the road from there.

That fresh powder helped me get down to 4 for a low this morning.

Folks - A nice hit on the Euro for our region regarding the storm on tuesday night... A nice 0.75" for all of us.. A little fast moving so taken as is, a nice 6-10 inch storm for us. Fingers crossed
I think that many if us are still a bit gun shy from last year bit we're starting to get over that as we get in on these storms, ha!
I agree with Tjay, yesterdays snowfall is beautiful, sparkling diamonds, simply wonderful. I'd take 3-4 storms like that one again over a couple of weeks than one big dog anytime.

Stopped here a little bit ago, 5.2"
-
lol Its 4.2. I gota teach the kid
LOL, we're always teaching our kids something.
Radders, I thought of you when I saw you got upgraded earlier. Still snowing over here even though there's not much on the radar, big beautiful flakes just floating down, good stuff. It looks like 5" IMBY.

4-5" seems to be the theme areawide..
My wife is off today said that she shoveled three times at home and each time it was a couple of inches. Of course this may not be all that accurate because what I tell my wife is 6" wouldn't show up as 6" on a standard ruler....

My daughter said we got 7 but I am going to recheck that when I get home
Anything is possible but there's not 7" in downtown Goshen now. I just did a window ledge measurement (not the most accurate I know) and it was 4" which looks about right.

Heh, forgot to add a trip report - The roads were getting covered at 7:30 when I left Mahopac and the Taconic/Sprain/BRP/FDR were just wet all the way in. Easy, smooth commute. The heavy stuff is just getting here (downtown) now. Temp ranged from 22* at the north end to 32-33 here.
My ride in was decent, there was snow on the road but two tire tracks down to pavement the whole way. That said, I just love people riding the brake going down hill, it's the telltale sign that they have no idea how to properly use their vehicle in the snow That heavier band of snow seems to be around Goshen right now.

The great thing about working for the fire department is the hours and I only have to do the drive twice a week. The only negative is that I am restricted to about a 60 mile drive.. Not allowed to live past Orange/Putnam line..
Not sure about these days but years ago there were ways around that, my uncle oulled it off for years
-
Honestly I'd dread doing that commute everyday. Driving? Forget it. Drive to the train, train to Hobbo, PATH, Subway I would if I had to but its like having a second job...
I'm at the point .I can;t stand going to Rockland every day now.To the guys who do the city run every day, you have my respect. .
Well being that I work in transit I'm rather familiar with the transit patterns and I honestly don't know how people do it on a regular basis from Orange to Manhattan but more and more people are doing it and some from further than Orange now.

I remember when a few of us said enough is enough and petitioned to start our own thread. At the end of the day we technically are still part of the NYC metro but snowfall wise its a different world.
Its funny how they think Orange county is soo far away yet Suffolk county is "down the block" so to speak..lol
Most of my family on Long Island are shocked that we get Saturday Night Live on Saturday night 'all the way up there'. I once met one of my cousins from Suffolk County at The Garden for a concert and it blew her mind that we both got on the train at around the same time in our respected areas and then got to the City at around the same time.
I agree with the Rad Man that there are some very good posters in the NYC thread but there are also some real dolts and whiners too.

12z NAM gives SWF .64"
I think overall look for a general 6" snowfall for the area with locally up to 10" in some of the intense bands.
I've been watching you and HudsonValley21 post in the NYC threads and sometimes wonder why you guys bother to be perfectly honest. That's not a judgement on the two of you but by how you tend to get treated by some. I've said it before and I'll say it again now, I'm glad we broke out over here
-
I hear ya, anything over 3" is bonus to me. Even if it's more of an ice pack rather than snow I love a snowfall on top of snow already on the ground.

Happy New Year to All!! Let's see if we can all crank up our snow totals and get in on some decent clippers, overrunning and swf events over these next few months
Yes, let's! It's a balmy 54 here now, glad this won't last too long!

Happy New Year to the Hudson Valley crew!!
Happy New Year one and all!

FDNY
Nice. All of my family that was on the job have been retired know for a couple of years. I do know a guy at 55 truck though.

Forecasts definitely busted to high last night - I got down to 10 on my weather station, but KPOU airport had a low of 6.. I think i need to move my weather station to a better location, as it consistently reads a little too high.. Too many trees around it.
I dropped to 4 right after I posted my low earlier this morning, surprising to say the least. just as much as my low of 30 yesterday morning was.

Well finally back from working 32 of the last 40 hours of my life for the city. We all can thank sanitaton for purposely stalling out on this storm simply cause budget cuts are aimed heavily at their agency come next fiscal yr. Its a damn shame cause their nonsense created chaos within other agencies. Bloomberg has to take a hit here for his nonchalant attitude towards the whole thing.
Where do you work?
As much as temps were warmer than forecasted yesterday morning they are colder than forecasted this morning, currently sitting at 5

I read somewhere that the SUV belonged to the city IDK how true that is but that display was disgraceful.
Yes, I beleive that it was a City Buildings Dept SUV.
A bummer with this storm, and it typically happens wafter the big coastals, we get mild air behind it which is cutting in on my snow pack
-
The snow has compacted nicely today, a lot less blowing snow and easier walking thru it 33F ATM
NSFW NYC sanitation workers destroy a Ford Explorer
It appears to me that for starters anyway the guy behind the wheel of the front-end loader had no business being there.
-
Sounds like many of you had a blast with this past storm. Next one is for me and the east-central NYS folks too. Glad it worked out well for most.
Thanks, I throughly enjoyed this one, and in reference to the bolded, oh do tell.

I had a wind gust of 40mph at 5:08pm yesterday, the highest that I've ever recorded here. Considering the overall poor location of the anemometer that's saying a lot about how strong that gust must have been.
