Anybody else noticing some color showing up on maples? I'm sure it's not stress from lack of rainfall...
My river birch dropped a bunch of yellow leaves but it's still young, about 7 years old, and gets sun pretty much all day. I should've watered it more in late June and July. A little over 2" in the bucket while I was gone last week.

I will have to check my rain gauge. It is reading only 0.18 for today. It seems like we got more than that here.
.90 here

I wont need to water the garden tonight...yikes, total downpour for the past 20 minutes or so

A bunch of up and downs with my OBX trip since last Friday but I feel confident now that we'll be able to go next week the only question is if we can get in there Saturday as planned or have to wait a day or two. Maybe I'll get "crushed" in some storms today, maybe not, but I can guarantee I'll be crushin' it at the beach and poolside at some point in the near future. Hoping to be able to see some more water spouts down there too.

I like popcorn especially when it helps to keep the soil moisture up We just had two little t-storms pop and dampen things and most importantly left us with a great rainbow highlighted against a towering cloud bank. Good stuff
I had a nice view of those pop ups as I drove east up and over Greenville Mt on 84

I guess "call before you dig" doesn't apply to professionals... what a disaster for the local economy.
Found out that Hatteras Island, where our house is, is not under the mandatory evacuation so we have that going for us. Worst case scenario we load up my generator next Friday night and bring it down to keep the food and beer cold. They are installing various large portable generators but I believe there will still be rolling blackouts even once they all are online. This afternoon they are slated to announce how big, and long, of a repair it will be.

It's good you have a week before you head down there. Hope they get it back soon. This will hurt them economically.
Luckily we have trip insurance as well. I ran some rough numbers. There's 7,700 customers out and let's say 3,500 of those are rental houses. Using a total guess of an average house cost this time of year of $5,000 for a week if folks miss next week there's lost revenue of $17.5 million in just house fees. So yeah, this could hurt them big time.

I see they issued a State of emergency down there and have restricted the visitors. And the power could be out for days.
Days to weeks, depends on if they have the materials needed available to fix it. Crews will get onsite to look at the details tomorrow evening.

Not one of my favorite storms. To get almost 3" of liquid without any mixing and not break 20" is a pretty huge fail. Tracking it was the best part of the whole event... though I suppose that's true more often than not.
Yeah and I got into that dry slot, 20.0" total. It did have some of the best blizzard conditions I've ever experienced though for a while.
My concerns now turn to OBX and that power outage, I'm slated to head down there on 8/5, hopefully they have the materials on hand to get it fixed quick.

Installation still hasn't crossed my mind. Windows closed during the day and open at night during the couple days of heat this week FTW

What a torch shaping up for Easter. Seems like every Easter has been cold in recent memory. 80's will be nice

What's everyone doing for the weekend. Hosting a BBQ Saturday with the new American themed corn hole set I built. Will be at the beach the rest of the weekend. Water temps 70 or even better now. Get out there.
Props for building it yourself, interesting you went with two sets of legs, I only have the one set of legs in the back of the ones I built years ago now.

Chamber of commerce weather this upcoming weekend...
Violently agree, stellar weather IMO

Lets start a new thread... This one is 50 pages long..
go for it.

I saw some interesting images for us in other threads from the HRRR. I'm not famailr with this model but I did find it and ran some loops, tonight could get interesting if this model has a clue.

You had 3 flakes? Im still waiting on my first one..lol
And in the past 20 minutes I've seen numbers 4, 5, and 6 and they brought their friends too, very light snow has commenced in Goshen, probably won't last long though.
-
Still waiting for that 4th flake to fall up this way.

I had a bad feeling about getting screwed on this storm even though i called for 6" - I think i could bust here and it might never get further north than southern Putnam. We will see.
It just amazes me that the same areas of NJ are getting hit again and again... What a winter for them down there.. At some point, this pattern HAS to change to something more climatologically normal.. These sharp cut-offs are really miserable when you are on the wrong side of them.. We are doing much better than last year at this point, but I really feel for the folks in PA who just can't catch a break.
All good points but I really can't complain with the 15" or so solid snowpack from various storms that I have at home. It's been a while since I've had that.
I can see the sun here!!! lol
Back home it looked like it was ready to snow, the air was so moist my Pilot was covered in "dew" @19F. The only reason it didn't freeze is its covered in salt
The sun was poking out here in Goshen as well but I did count 3 snowflakes about 45 minutes ago

Looks like we are in the screw zone here in the HV.
We could be but it's interesting that the latest NAM doesn't have all of the snow that is currently falling to our south. What that means to how the rest of the NAM run acutally plays out tonight remains to be seen.

Thanks for the input... This looks very reasonable based on where things stand.. I am personally thinking 6" is a good forecast for the SE areas of the NWS Albany forecast area.
Agree on all counts.

How are we ever going to be satisfied with another Winter after this one?
This is legendary.
...and it's only January.
Note: This post will ensure we hit 70 degrees next week.
This winter so far reminds me of 93-94, which was my favorite winter ever. Could this one match or surpass that one for me? Time will tell.

1.8" this morning and still falling lightly. I guess we all overlooked this little snowfall today. In some years this would be our big storm
