yeah the drought I'm refering to in summer 2022 was more of a "flash drought"  bone dry for about 3 months before the wet pattern returned-it was very dry though-lawns was toast and even some leaves on trees died...we had something like a half inch of rain in July which combined with the strong sun really dried things out

I remember it, I recorded 5.34" for June, July, August which honestly is more than I would've thought with how dry everything was in July and August 2022.  Lately we get 5" every couple of weeks.

It’s like a sponge out there. Went to the angry orchard last Sunday before this weeks rain and it was sloppy then. Was wondering if you have the monthly precip totals since October. Can’t remember when I had to drain the pool so many times vs. years before.

Sure, with one caveat, the Feb total is just what the tipper registered which is likely off due to the snows. I'll have to check my records at home later if you want an accurate total for Feb:

    Oct: 3.69

    Nov: 2.13

    Dec: 8.07

    Jan: 3.51

    Feb*: 1.78

    Mar: 2.11

    Feb was 2.34"

62.86" since June. 70.09" since last April 1. Average annual rainfall is 40-45" in these parts.

April 2023 thru March 2024 is currently (thru 7 AM) at 63.52".  2005 had 66.67", hopefully out of reach, but #2, 63.73" will be left in the mud (no dust here).  However, Feb 24 failed to get the message - its 0.95" is the driest.

Down here not too far from your old stomping grounds in NW NJ, 70.09" from April 2023 to right now.

The good thing is you dont need a room to see an eclipse.  I plan on just getting there and coming back, no nights spent anywhere.

Thoughts and prayers for your first trip traveling so far north in NY

Anyone have any idea why a map like this leaves out an area where 8 million people live?

Its always been that way for whatever reason but it still gives the general idea of how wet the past nine months have been.

seems like a distant memory but April/May and into June 2023 were bone dry

Had 6.21" in April here but only 1.02" in May before the faucet got turned on later in June.

Ski resorts up there will be happy.

Too little too late. It’s akin to a rainy summer and then it gets nice after Labor Day. Doesn’t help the beach resorts at all.

I saw at least some of he ski areas up there had traffic jams and ran out of parking, might have been their best weekend of the season.

I'm not seeing it. Any obs?

850s and 925 are torched. I can't see how there would be snow there. Even mixing in.

All the mPING reports I see down there report plain rain.

My wife’s cousin lives in Pine Bush, she said there’s real good icing up that way

I believe it, I’m just a bit south of there. Based on the traffic maps the roads are ok but I’m sure there some sights to be seen if I have the ice at 400’

Good morning Rob. In the main thread you mentioned the trees and bushes are encased in ice. With winds possibly gusting later is yours and the surrounding northern areas in any danger. Please be careful if you go out. As always ….

Good morning! I anticipate the ice to be melted off as the temps slowly rise before the winds get going later.

I’m tired of these record rains we have been having. I just replaced my sump pump and installed a silent check valve in my basement, so I guess this will be the chance to test it. Hopefully it works out.

Unfortunately I have to work Friday night into Saturday at the wastewater treatment plant and rain especially the amount being forecast means a rough night for all of us, hopefully the heavy stuff comes after 7 am.

    It will be after 7

Any advice for hairy bittercress, which is already running amok?

I know barely enough to be dangerous so no, but I have a crop of that again this year too. I think that germinates in the fall, so maybe pre emergent makes sense in the fall too? I need to research it because each spring the hairy bittercress gets worse here. I just know that the crabgrass pre emergent lasts three to four months depending on the weather and there are various types of crabgrass that germinate at different times of the spring and summer.
    27 here currently.

What are the expected precip chances and totals today? I’m hoping to get some pre emergent on the lawn before a possible washout this weekend.

I think it's a bit early for pre-emergent-I'd wait another week.   But on your question we're looking at light amounts maybe .10 or .20

If you do apply this early you'll need another application to cover you for the entire growing season. 39 and drizzle here, blah and 20s are a lock up here in he coming days.
