I see NYC made 47 around 23z... kind of late in the day.  Ditto here we made 37 in Wantage here at 7P.  Too late to prevent damage.  I think the heliport in Manhattan made 50.

It's raining ice off the branches now here in Wantage and glad we have had the 70 MPH gusts, at least not yet.

May take quite a while to get power back once its off, due crews spread a little thin in the many east coast states where power is out.

This may be my last post for a day if we lose power.

Up to 34 here and it's noisy out there with the ice raining down now. Ice getting blown against the house too.

  2. I usually just hold my tongue on this type of stuff as usually I don’t see any issues. That said, I’m shocked that there is now WSW or WWA for around here with freezing rain pouring down. Sure I’m right at freezing, so the rain could go either way but the damage was already done so there is lots of ice out there now covered in water, plenty slippery enough. KMGJ just up the road still hasn’t touched freezing. Be careful out there.

Anything within a few degrees is pretty close in my book since I don’t expect perfection from these models. The general rule of thumb is that warm fronts usually have no problem making it through CNJ. Then they usually hang up somewhere between 1-78 and I-80. Long Island usually makes it above 50° but sometimes Central Park can hover in the mid 40s. Usually have to get back closer to your area to struggle to get above freezing.

Oh I agree, not looking for perfection but at possible trends.

  4. Back down to 30.8 here. One of my issues here is that the lane I live on, if you will, was plowed last night. Great. Well it's now just a sheet of ice and they typically don't salt or sand the lane so I really need that ice to go away or I may be stuck here for a while.

Pressure fall modulations as wind blows into pressure falls if he ardent is not strong. Allows pockets of colder air nearly to to your north-northeast to return for a little while. Still 30.2F here in Wantage.  NAM3K and ECAI 2meters temps seems to have the east fit.

Thanks. That explains it, after getting to 31.9 I'm back down to 30.8 now with freezing drizzle in between the occasional freezing rain showers.

  6. Sitting at 31 with freezing rain here near Campbell Hall. It's rough out there with at least .2 accretion on top of the 1.9” of snow I measured last night. Really hoping for that warm air to get in here long enough to get the ice out of the trees before the winds or we'll have a real mess on our hands. Not good out there right now.

Do you keep daily depth stats? It's been pretty patchy at times imby (today would have been a T for depth with mostly bare ground, for example). Definitely more deep winter appeal than the past several years, in any case

I had 3” at the stake this morning, a solid snow cover. It has been a decent snowcover year down here, albeit on the small side.

I think today has underperformer written all over it south of Orange, Putnam and Sussex. Daytime, very marginal temps, crappy rates, crappy dendrite snow growth, weak to non existent frontogen. Take the under

Yeah, I tend to agree. Hopefully the biggest story won't be the wind right before and after the cold front.

I guess no none is interested in this storm huh.  I figure at least the guys to the North would we talking about it.

Yeah, 36 pages of no one interested. Anyway, hoping the temps get high enough above freezing up here tomorrow to melt the anticipated ice off the trees and wires before the winds kick in. Also wondering what kind of icy mess there will be on the ground once it all freezes up again.

I'll likely being doing an update to the season-to-date snowfall map so if anyone has an accurate total and wants to be included let me know, thanks. (please include your location)

Thomas Bull Park, along NYS 416 between Campbell Hall and Montgomery NY, 27.4" for the season.
