  1. With the way the banding looks I’d expect more around DC....
  2. RGEM also with the coastal further north and better snow into Sunday night, should be improved as @Beachin noted.
  3. ICON has banding around DC 03z Monday, should be a big hit.
  4. The extra snow with the Vort pass shown on the NAMs would be superb. Really hope that happens, love me some ULL snow.
  5. 3K matches pretty well with the euro. Argues for upping DC to 6-8.
  6. LOL 12-16 inches down in DC and still dumping at 00z Sunday
  7. Bigtime weeinie run, probably gonna be 10-12 for DC based on the way the radar looks.
  8. Wow! 6-8 for immediate DC metro! Maybe even better if we can get ratios to work out.
  9. As for headlines, did upgrade the advisory to a warning for the northern Shenandoah Valley and the Washington Metropolitan area. Am concerned that east-west oriented banding may cause locally higher amounts across these areas. Frontogenetical forcing increases as the low passes by to the south late tonight into Sunday morning, and looking at the 00z nam bufkit, did notice the Eqivalent Potential Temperatures nearly neutral with height for a period between 06 and 12z along with slightly negative EPV and Frontogenetical forcing that lines up, suggesting that CSI banding is possible. Elsewhere, left the headlines from the previous forecast. Still looking at a most likely of 2-5 inches across northern Maryland, the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and the Baltimore Metropolitan areas, with 4-7 inches elsewhere. Do want to point out that there is still uncertainty regarding the placement and location of any banding precipitation and also with the track of the low. Any slight change in either direction will have an impact on snowfall totals. Having that been said, there will be impact from snow across the entire CWA tonight into Sunday.
  10. wow sure looks a lot faster on these videos, I guess funneling as @Windspeed mentioned.
  11. Anyone know what the sustained winds were when it hit Hong Kong? The videos are nuts.
  12. Where is my best bet if I wanted to drive down to somewhere in st Mary's county and do some snowshoeing or XC skiing? Is st Mary's river park pretty nice? Does it have some trails? I know point lookout is nice but I don't recall it having many trails.
  13. Getting word that Columbia Heights Education Campus may have to be relocated for repairs. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-schools-insider/post/gray-most-but-likely-not-all-schools-to-open-thurs/2011/08/24/gIQASgZZbJ_blog.html
  14. 13th and Monroe Also there was structural damage to Columbia Heights Education Campus. And Best Buy was flooded from broken pipes and is closed indefinitely.
  15. To be fair I just read a lot of schools in Fairfax are damaged also.
  16. I was in Bell during the Earthquake. I did notice one crack on the wall where some drywall or plaster had fallen.
  17. According to Washington Post "D.C. Fire officials were investigating reports of significant cracks in buildings at the Ecuadorian Embassy and Bell Multicultural School, said Pete Piringer, a spokesman."
  18. DCPS hasn't decided to close schools or not, they say they are doing an inspection of all 126 buildings tonight. Why does it seem like inspecting 126 buildings in one night is impossible?
  19. My students (I teach high school) noticed it first. It side to side shaking of the entire school building (I was on the 3rd floor).
  20. From reddit.com "If you stop eating outside, the earthquakes have won."
  21. I saw this quake on the 126 hr panel of the GFS last week.
  22. I was snowshoeing through DC this time last year.
