Here’s what I’m thinking:
covid thread gets shut down
very limited covid related discussion allowed in banter, specifically things like questions about testing, reopening, logistics. No discussion about policy, case counts, government response, etc.
Just ban the posters who keep breaking the rules.

Saw that too. Hopefully NHL doesn’t follow suit.
AHL is a different beast since it is basically all gate driven. I can't imagine they'll continue their season.
Through its TV rights, the NHL will still bring in a ton of revenue if it completes the season, so it will do everything reasonably possible to make it happen.

Just spiked to 80 here.

I think we'll see a sharp transition from cool to very warm or even hot around the mid-May timeframe. But as of the next 2 weeks, I think it'll be cooler and wetter than normal. Polar vortex is finally breaking down and the main source of cold air now is the arctic with all the snowcover still. Once that melts the temps are off to the races
That would figure. We're set up for the worst possible Fall to Spring pattern for those of us who enjoy beautiful 60s and 70s and snowy 20s and 30s: Above normal September/October, below normal November, above normal Jan-March, below normal April, and above normal May. That's a lot of 40s and 50s quickly transitioning from/to 80s and 90s. Bleh!

Got down to 30 here. Not sure if it was enough to kill the skeeters, but it ought to at least make them sluggish for a while.

Torrential rain, some wind and some thunder and lightning. Nice storm to kick off the season. Glad the more severe winds didn't materialize. I've spent the last month or so stocking the freezer, and am glad not to lose power.

LWX issued SVR #32 at 4:22 am to 5:00 am and this occurred around 4:35 am based off radar.
Thanks. I guess I need to check my weather radio to see why it didn't go off.

More from Bethesda below. I may have missed it, but I don't think there was a warning out for this portion of the line.
I'm a few miles away, and it doesn't seem like we had any significant wind here. My weather station (which is highly sheltered from wind) only had a reading of 10 mph. It tends to run 40-50% of actual winds, so it suggests we didn't see anything above the low 20s.

We had a few flakes? pellets? pelakes? of graupel in N. Bethesda this morning. Top 10 winter event for the year!

Seems that shine on Samsonov is slowly wearing off
He was very strong last night. Unless you were expecting him to score as well.

Lol 3rd round pick for Kovalchuk... doubt he sees much ice time besides being on the 2nd PP unit or maybe the 4th line

It's a low risk move to inject some more O into the bottom 6. I assume he takes the spot of Panik on the 3rd line, with Panik taking over Leipsic's spot on the 4th. I'm not expecting a ton, but don't see much downside here.

Zwift looks pretty cool, but I'm not willing to buy the equipment necessary to have the resistance linked. I've thought about it, but I can't justify the expense because I hate riding inside.
I hated riding inside until I started Zwift. It's nothing like riding outside, but it's engaging enough to keep it interesting, and it really helps me keep my legs during the winter. It's definitely an investment to get the equipment, but I've seen some setups coming down to the $300 range.

@Bob Chill, today was an awesome day for a ride (which you probably knew already)!! Yesterday would have been fine too, but I was unfortunately busy and didn't get out. However, I wasn't going to let anything deter me this afternoon. Even to get out there for a relatively short time, it was great to go for a spin. I hope you were able to take advantage of this weather either yesterday or today yourself and hit some trails!
I was tempted to ride outside yesterday, but ended up doing some zwift on the trainer indoors. Looking forward to having some nice riding weather (though I'm okay with delaying it if we can get some real winter. The 40s just aren't good for anything.)

Zamboni piles! Remember the old cabin john skating rink? I used to play peewee hockey and if my mom was late picking me up I'd start working on a snow cave. Lol. Made some big ones too. Which is dangerous AF if the pile collapses. You'd prob make it for 30 mins before lights out.
Snow caves! Hadn't thought of that in a while. After the storm in 2016, our parking lot had snow piles over 10 feet tall. The neighborhood kids built an extensive complex of tunnels in the biggest pile. It was truly impressive. I had to make some of them a bit larger, so I could fit in!
I was just at the Cabin John rink last week teaching my youngest to skate. He was terrified to try, but picked it up in 5 minutes. Now all he wants to do is go skating. The rink looks nice. They just finished up a big renovation. It still smells like dank sweaty socks, though...

no lie, she gave me a hard time for buying her new snow pants, that i jinxed it.
she's 7 and already dragging my ass through the mud over there not being any snow
My 8-year old was on the verge of tears this morning when he was complaining about the lack of snow, and I told him there was no sign of snow in sight...
I may have to resort to taking him out behind the ice skating rink, so we can make some snowballs from the zamboni piles.

A few flurries about an hour ago in N. Bethesda.

It was 58 when I got up; and we're down to 42 with sleet pellets mixing in.

Not sure if this is a tornado or not, this is what came through Germantown.
The winds seem unidirectional from that shot. I wonder what they looked like on the other side of the building.

Thank you!
she royally messed up her right leg/foot. Multiple dislocations and a bad break. Left leg is swollen and bruised too, so more xrays and an mri is needed.
Sorry to hear about your sister. Sounds bad, but I'm glad it wasn't worse. Car accidents are scary!
I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts.

My enjoyment comes from making observations doing the event and following things from 3 days in. I derive no satisfaction from endlessly changing example of possible weather, I want to forecast as to most probable outcome. Models can’t do that and have not tightened things up in last 20 years do let’s tryanother route.
Then why are you in the medium/long range discussion thread?
