E PA/NJ/DE Winter 2022-2023 OBS Thread
Hurricane Agnes replied to Ralph Wiggum's topic in Philadelphia Region
We are sandwiched between an elongated high to the west and a low that is sitting off the coast so the gradient has been increasing as that low deepens a bit. The 3:38 pm AFD mentioned it - There's definitely been an active breeze today! Currently still overcast here and 30 with dp 21 -

Looks like my high of 35 came at midnight and it has literally stayed at or below freezing most of the rest of the day. Currently overcast and 32 with dp 21. -

Wow. Didn't expect you to so soon! I did make it up to 55 yesterday before the cool down. Had a low of 30 this morning and it's currently overcast and 31. CPC had pretty much been honkin' at the above normal temps and norm precip at least from their Dec. 15 outlook but that might be a CA miss if the spigot doesn't shut off on the west coast all of a sudden. -

Well after a 36 low this morning and 40s most of the day, was surprised at the mid-50s high (56) before round 2 of light rain came in. It had a spring feel to it and I know some shrubs nearby (star magnolia) have budded and with some blooms as well. Had 0.03" rain earlier before the sun had come out and then a passing heavier little band blew past about 15 minutes ago, giving me another 0.06" (0.09" total so far today). Also now getting some convection being picked up by the lightning detector. Currently light rain and 52 with dp 48. -

They are all in an extreme drought out that way and they certainly need whatever they can get... although too much runoff is killing CA with no place to store it. After a low of 29, I got up to 44 and it's currently 37 with dp 29. -

Well I made it up to 42 today after a 36 low and it did get sunny as the system moved out pretty quickly. Currently 39 with dp 28. -

Looks like the 18z NAM whiffs a "heavier" blob just south of RedSky. Hit 42 as a high today and it's currently overcast and 40, with dp 30. I think we would still have a playoff slot but not home field advantage & a bye IIRC. -

I think in this instance, it's because we are "too close" to the ocean and the coldest ocean temps lag the coldest air temps. That's why February tended to be the jackpot month (often President's Day), although ENSO states might allow the more significant snow to come in January. I just popped out and that's exactly what it looks like. A thick deck of cirrus with the sun trying to shine through it with a hazy yellowish tint. I bottomed out at 29 this morning and it's currently a hazy 41 with dp 28. -

Well the NBM is reflecting the whoosh! for the SE for tonight/tomorrow morning. In other news it did make it up to 45 IMBY yesterday after a low of 37 and this morning, I have slowly crept down to freezing for the first time in awhile, with temp at 32 and dp 28. -

Made it up to 64 yesterday after a low of 50. Was expecting rain but it pretty much missed to the west and/or evaporated. Currently partly cloudy (much of it cirrus), a full moon setting at post time, and 55, with dp 55. Haven't seen fog here yet but I expect it might come soon. -

You must be just north of the warm front. It's surprisingly "clear" of fog here. Mt. Holly did put an Advisory up for the counties N and NW of Philly metro and over into central & north Jersey. Temp hit 55 after a low of 47 and am currently 54 with dp 54 (so fog might come if the warm front wobbles back down this way). I did pick up 0.19" of rain today after the drizzle and mist of yesterday and this morning. -

And I ALSO got buzzed by a skeeter today and managed to shoo it right out the front door (my spiked swatter wasn't close by )! Had a 41 low and 56 high today and it started out cloudy, got sunny, and then self-destructed into some drizzle the rest of the afternoon, and into the evening. Nothing measurable yet though. Currently 51 and misty with dp 49. -

The GFS/GEFS don't quite get there though although some members are appearing in phase 8, but still not really a strong signal as yet. As some obs, after a 39 low on New Year's I made it up to 53 as a high (also finished the year with 0.37" of rain on 12/31, giving me a 2022 total liquid equivalent of a whopping 55.91"). Currently 41, with a little low stratus, and dp 40. -

Mt. Holly gave up and the Dense Fog Advisory is up until 4 am tomorrow morning. The rain today - at least in the Philly metro area - hasn't been heavy enough to scour out the fog. Am guessing that will wil make for some freaky fireworks. Currently getting some light rain (have 0.04" in the bucket at the moment) and 53 with dp 53. -

And the Dense Fog Advisory was extended to 6 pm. I had just heard on KYW at the top of the hour (3:02 pm) that the bridges were all down to 25 mph restrictions due to the dense fog. Currently still foggy and 54 with dp 54. -

I found that site last year discussing what would be an incoming SWE and it's been pretty fascinating checking in with them through the year. Each one of the blog entries does get repetitive with respect to using the same boilerplate intro describing the PV, etc., before launching into their analysis. -

Geez. Hope you guys take it easy get better. I know there are all kinds of respiratory things going around. Probably universal to suggest plenty of fluids although I expect some adult types of "fluids" might be on tap for the Iggles tomorrow. I did make it up to 57 as a high yesterday and this morning, in the midst of literal pea-soup fog with visibility < 1/10th of a mile (and I saw a Dense Fog Advisory was lofted), I have had a low of 48 so far. Currently foggy and 50 with dp 50. Also Mt. Pocono had a Record high min yesterday. lol
