  1. I need to resolve to never read another long-range winter forecast again. Forget a three-month forecast: we can’t even get three days right. We might as well resort to palm reading or pig entrails.
  2. It’s official. The winter of 2019-2020 can’t bring up its grade no matter what happens over the next month. This winter gets an... F
  3. This wind is annoying AF. I lost two glass panels in a patio lantern. That’s nothing compared to others.
  4. This wind is going bonkers. A 53 mph gust was recorded at PTI airport this morning. 25 mph sustained. Lots of power outages due to downed trees.
  5. Approaching 3” IMBY so far. About 2,500 homes without power in Guilford County.
  6. KFCX radar is down due to a Verizon communications failure. ”America’s most reliable network.”
  7. Mark my words: six months from now—when the drought monitor map is painted orange—we won’t be able to buy a drop of rain.
  8. I’m really not too eager to see 3 to 5 inches of rain on top of already soggy soil. Around our back patio, we have four downspouts that have outlets running under the landscaping. I spent yesterday cleaning out three of them in preparation for this week’s Noahic event, but I’ll be darned if I can’t find the fourth one. It’s covered under mulch and soil and I’ve poked a prodded everywhere with no luck.
  9. Well, I’m usually pretty reluctant to throw in the towel, but looking long range doesn’t leave me too optimistic. At least I saw flakes and a very light mulch dusting last week, but this season has been miserable. The worst soggy and tepid winter in ages.
  10. I’m happy to see a light dusting in the mulch at least. Today was sort of like scoring a late fourth-quarter field against the third-string defense of a team that’s drilling you 63 to 3. We’ve been defeated by this winter, but at least we’re on the board with something. Here’s to hoping that we can score a late touchdown within the next month.
  11. Flurries mixing in with rain 10 miles north of downtown Greensboro. It’s something I suppose. P.S. Big flakes now. Really coming down. P.P.S. Sticking to the mulched areas now. I guess we weren’t shut out technically.
  12. And just when we’re starting to dry out, too. I was getting tired of toweling off my dog’s paws after he came back in.
  13. The sunrise this morning was blood red. Not pink. I mean as red as a stop sign.
  14. Remember when I-40 was the battle line? Now it seems to be I-64.
  15. I’ve somehow managed to confuse the birds by putting up a second feeder. They have no idea what to do.
  16. At least the sun made an appearance today. Until it goes into hiding again tomorrow of course.
  17. Yeah, but they would usually back up their thoughts with a brief explanation of their thinking and not a simple “we ain’t getting jack squat” and then leaving.
  18. 59 degrees and waterlogged in GSO. 1.5” since Sunday. Lawn looks like a bog garden. It’ll dry up just in time for the cold.
  19. Even with good drainage, parts of my yard are waterlogged. If it’s not going to be cold, it’d be nice to have a dry weekend. But nooooooooooooo.
  20. You got yourself a catchy hook for a country song. (Pardon the off-topic reply.)
  21. I drove up to Hanging Rock this morning. It was a 33 degree cold rain. It looked like things were a little frozen higher up on Moore’s Knob from my vantage point at the visitors’ center.
  22. It’s 48 currently in Greensboro. I shouldn’t complain I guess. I hope we get paid back for all of this relative warmth.
