I'm loving the look in the long range on the gfs

Troughs are starting to come in and each one is deeper.

The area is finally in NHC cone

Euro and EPS brings the remnants into our area next week.

Euro has 1-2 inches for NYC with more to the north.

no one that was in nyc/jersey survived a cat 1 hurricane that day.  

It still caused alot of damage and a ton of power outages.

think about how ridiculous this is and how this impacts future storms and when there actually may be trouble.

No one is downplaying this

What people are saying is that Florence was modeled to be a cat 3 or 4 upon landfall and now it's only going to be a 2 which is still very bad.

The rain is going to be the worse part of this storm.

And the rainfall and flooding will be enough to keep everyone's attention. At the end of the day, nobody will remember that a narrow area of beach didn't receive cat 4 winds, which would have happened with a tight core system.

This will not be as large as Sandy's windfield.

Sandy was much larger in the ocean than this storm is right now.

Remennants of Florence comes up here next week on the Euro. Few inches of rain.

Look, will the storm likely weaken as it slows down just off the coast?  Sure , most likely, but that doesn't diminish the effects, it just changes them.  When have you last seen a Cat 3 hurricane slow to a crawl and even stall just off the coast as some of the models are depicting (with several placing the eyewall on the the coast for multiple hours)?  This storm has the "potential" to be far more devastating then even a full on landfalling Cat 4 hurricane simply due to the shear amount of time the effects may be felt along such a large portion of the coastline.  Its going to be interesting regardless and certainly should not be downplayed.

The flooding will still be very catastrophic and no one should take this storm lightly.

The saving grace will be if the storm stalls just offshore and weakens as it moves southwest.
