  1. Oh don't I know it. On the other side of those intense outer swirling bands are often strong zones of subsidence. Such is the game of chance we call weather.
  2. I am not amused. Our best shot over here may be with the weak frontal passage tomorrow afternoon. Still holding out hope for some action this evening, as some of the other models want to bring something through. But the best of Elsa's remnants almost certainly seem to be staying east.
  3. So true. Take Lancaster County for instance, my little area in the northwest part of the county is well under average the past couple of months while the rest of the county is fine. I've only gotten an inch in the past three and a half weeks.
  4. Topped out at 98 here today. Luckily we were able to take a late afternoon dip in my parent’s pool. Looks like no rain out this way tonight, really hoping to get in on the western edge of that Elsa action late tomorrow.
  5. Yeah I believe it, sad what's become of so many of these small towns. I will say Penns Tavern is a cool place, stopped there a time or two.
  6. Eh loosely but not as much as other areas. However, I do consider myself a bit of a PA geography buff. The guys at work used to razz me because I could fill in all 67 counties on a blank map. I will say that most of my family is from the Sunbury area but I've rarely traveled on your side of the river, although my Grandma's favorite spot for years was the Herndon House haha. Is that still a thing?
  7. I'm going to venture a guess that you're closer to Pillow than Dalmatia? I could study terrain maps for a lifetime and be content ha. Feel free to shut me up if you think I'm giving away too much about your personal location haha.
  8. Indeed. I put a hurting on our friend's whiskey cache, although not as viciously as I would have in the past. Having a baby will do that ha.
  9. Damn right I do! Although I've only been in Warren once and that was while visiting the Allegheny National Forest. Bet you guys had an amazing weekend up there.
  10. Hmmmmm actually I'm drawing a blank. Where is that gift shop exactly? I do love myself a good dinner at that Log Cabin Inn though yum yum.
  11. I'm back in action. We were out in the sticks of western PA for a few days so left the phone by the bedside. Stopped at Ohiopyle on Friday and then stayed outside of Smithton for a couple days with some friends. Actually had better weather out there than you guys had here back east. Only had .1" in the gauge from the Fri - Sun period while we were gone, a bit disappointing. Looks hot for a while, but it is July so I guess we can live with that.
  12. My buddy’s cabin that I’ve been going to for decades is just west of you, a few miles south of Gaines on top of a hill. It really is like leaving the modern world behind when you go up there, love it.
  13. Great post Bubbs, but if I recall correctly there was another June that was hotter, I wanna say 1943?? Don't have time to check right now....
  14. Well, despite being a warned storm the gust front never arrived here, although I did get some much needed liquid H2O to the tune of ~.3", bringing me to almost a half inch for the day.
  15. As Oberyn Martell once uttered to Tyrion Lannister, "I will be your champion Wellsboro"......for the GOT fans out there, I may or may not have added the word Wellsboro......
  16. So, I finished June with 2.33" on ten days of measurable precip. Pretty remarkable that for Harrisburg it appears this will be the third hottest June on record despite carrying an anomaly of only 3 degrees above average, and yes I understand those anomalies only compare against the most recent 30-year period, not the entire period of record (in reality it's more like 4.4 degrees above average), but still......
  17. That whole Kenai Fjords area is amazing. We had to have our day cruise out of Seward canceled when we were there due to smoke from the wildfires, which were plentiful due to the aforementioned heat wave they were experiencing. Good stuff Training!
  18. That's awesome Carlisle, sounds like you're having an incredible time! I always tell people you have to get to Alaska at least once, truly unspeakable levels of beauty. How cool is Whittier, with the old one lane rail cave being the only way in or out of the town!? I remember feeling like we were in another world when we came out on the other side with the Caribbean-like turquois waters and the glaciers seemingly emanating right out from the water. If you get a chance, on the way to or from Denali hit up the small touristy village of Talkeetna, cool place. You can walk down to the river and get some incredible views of Denali towering over the landscape even though it's like 60 miles away. The daylight is always wild and it's not like it gets totally dark after sunset haha. I remember coming out of the bars at like 2am with my wife and it was still plenty light out, like a civil twilight. Sounds like you are getting nice classic Alaska weather, whereas when we were there they were having a record heat wave in which Anchorage hit 90 for the first time in its history. I would much rather have what you're having ha. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your trip and feel free to stop back in and let us know how things are going. Cheers! Oh, almost forgot, Hatcher Pass is a place well worth stopping between Anchorage and Talkeetna. You can swim in a fresh mountain top lake one minute and then just a few steps away play in some snow, stunning.
  19. Welp I got screwed, some brief intense wind gusts but only scattered big drops. Don’t even need to check the gauge to know it’s shy of .01” ugh.
