I looked at the drought map "update" last week and was surprised to see what i saw.  While we've recieved a bunch, I'm wondering if lower level ground soil content is still lacking.  Dunno, but that's the only solution my limited brain could muster up. No matter, still in a much better place than were we were.

Did you see this week's update where they basically removed everything?

  2. Low of 65.  Looks like none of the statewide ASOS station hit 90 yesterday but quite a few local ones reached 89.  Really hoping any storms hold off this afternoon so I can get a mow in.  Have to head to Sunbury tomorrow for a baby shower.  Happy Friday, nerds.

  3. Hello summer thread.  I finished May with 9.7" of rainfall, good for the 4th wettest month I've ever recorded.  Also tied my record for most days in a month with measurable precip, at 21.

Looks like MDT actually ended up two-tenths of a degree below average for May.  Bradford hit 28 last night, only three off the national low of 25.  Smoke should make for some pretty skies but shouldn't affect our surface air quality, as it looks to stay mostly aloft.

Interesting - do you have any idea when it rained? Nothing measurable fell here.

I've often wondered this but never asked, is there a radar history that is available to review over the past 24 hours or so? I'd love to see what came through overnight...when, how large of a cell, etc.

Over here it was from about 2:30-3am.  I usually check the E-Wall radar first thing in the morning and that goes back six hours, so it covers most of the night after I go to bed.  Also, this page from MARFC gives you the ability to check past one-hour (and other time frames) radar estimates.

    Multisensor Precipitation Estimates (MPE)

  5. Low of 62 and some unexpected overnight rainfall to the tune of .05".  Assuming I receive some measurable rainfall today and tomorrow, I'll tie my personal record for days in a month with 21.  Might try and sneak in a mow after work today before the steady stuff moves in later in the evening.

I got up yesterday and saw that Elliott was predicting that rain would arrive in Lanco just after the evening commute. I had to do a double take to verify that he meant yesterday. At any rate, not sure what he saw but he said we'd be wet by 9pm. Rain started at my house at 8:45pm.

Oh wow, good on him.  I was just speaking to model-gazing, but that's why he's a pro.  It does look like he's had to up his predicted amounts substantially.  It looks like the record min max for MDT of 57 from 1996 has a chance to go down, although the station has spiked to 55 recently.  I'll have to check the flight log.

  7. Low of 52 with .23” of rain. Doubt the temp budges much today. This was a pretty big forecast miss with regard to timing. I checked every single model yesterday and I don’t think a one of them had rain moving in as early as last evening, nor did they have me getting anywhere close to a quarter inch prior to 6am. Consensus was rain moving in during the pre-dawn to early morning hours. That’s wildly off for being less than 24 hours out. Anyway, should be a nice miserable walk into the capital city this morning.

  8. The current monthly mean temp at MDT is 63.4 degrees and according to my calculations that's exactly where it will end the month as well, at 63.4.  Fun fact, that would exactly match the 30-year average temp for the month of May, down to the tenth of a degree.  Middle of the pack type month.  Book it.
