  1. Yeah you aren’t kidding. I’ve had a couple occasions where i was raining down at my house and drove to the top of the ridge where it was snowing, despite only being a couple hundred feet higher. It’s pretty rare but it does happen. See my prior comment for my thoughts about MDT being our main climo site ha.
  2. Yeah I hate that the bulk of our local climatology is recorded and viewed through the lens of that site. Don’t feel it represents the area very well but what are you gonna do.
  3. Haha yes you know it’s coming. They already recorded a T for yesterday’s snowfall but that is probably accurate since it ended at midnight. We anxiously await today’s report, perhaps pull an all-nighter to see the official post-midnight report.
  4. Gotchya, so basically just improvise the best you can. Side note, the closest I’ve ever golfed out your way is The Bridges out near New Oxford, beautiful course. With a few exceptions I pretty much just stick to the Lancaster County courses. I had a baby this past year so didn’t get to play much. Actually, let me be clear, my wife had a baby ha. Golf season will be here before you know it!
  5. No excuses play like a champion! But seriously that works out great for you. Let me ask you this, in the hypothetical scenario where cashtown coop, despite has grandest efforts, couldn’t be around for a live measurement of a snowfall that then melted off, how would he handle such a situation?
  6. Woke up at 3am and took a peak out the window, all non-paved surfaces solidly covered, had to be at least 1/2”. All mostly gone this morning. Hard to know what to put in the books. I used to have situations like this being at work all day and knowing accumulating snow fell but then by the time I got home it was gone, would always try and estimate from other sources in those instances. How do the official reporters on the board handle these situations? Thanks!
  7. Thanks to all those who responded to my post about past weather forums. I don't recognize most of them but I did figure out that the site the former Accuweather folks started is WX Disco; however, it seems you have to be a member to even view anything. Anyway, as for weather, looks like the Euro/CMC/NAM all at least kinda sorta-ish have something in the pipeline for us, whereas the GFS wants nothing to do with anything for the foreseeable future, only giving us ~1/2" of total precip over its entire 384hr run. Welp, time to start my weekend. Is there anything better than Fridays off? The answer is no, cheers boys!
  8. random question for the board.....so I have dabbled in various weather forums (not posting just lurking) for many years now and was just taking a trip down memory lane. There was one with a guy who was pretty well-known by the handle Undertakersson (UTS for short) that I believe may have been the Accuweather forums before they were shut down? And didn't the people on that site go on to create their own site, something like Weather Disco? Also I used to follow some older forum that was more like a blog style but can't remember the name? Any of this ringing a bell to anyone? I figured you losers would know
  9. I've only recently started posting and have never done so in the MA forum but as a longtime lurker I completely agree with this sentiment. It's a sh$t show over there far too often for my liking. Don't get me wrong, there are some extremely knowledgeable posters and some great humor as well, but you're right in how wildly inconsistently the rules are applied and who is allowed to get away with what. That's why I just stay over here in this little central PA hamlet tehe.
  10. Most of the things Amtrak does would qualify amongst the dumbest things on the planet. I would know, rode them every day for 14 years pre-covid. I'll likely get back to doing so again if I ever get brought back for in-person work. What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.
  11. I hit 50 as well. After another day in the 50s tomorrow with even more sun, and then the always-dreaded overnight low above freezing, my snowpack will be entirely gone by Thursday I reckon, but admittedly I don't have as much as most people in here.
  12. All this talk of ice and frozen lakes and whatnot, I just wanted to throw out there that my buddies and I were playing cornhole on the middle of a frozen lake in the Poconos this past weekend. The ice was at least a foot thick with nearly a foot of snow laying on top of it. It was an F'ing awesome experience.
  13. Didn't they have a bit more sleet down that way? Would also perhaps suggest a wetter snow at times for them being closer to the mix line. We had no sleet until the very end and it only lasted a few minutes and was so light it would not have meaningfully contributed to the total. SLRs can be so tough though, just checked Cocorahs and even within the same counties values can be all over the map. I also don't fully trust that my gauge catches everything frozen, just a hunch that it may slightly undercount in snow events. I did not do a core sample for this event. Haha nope not I. I've always just kept my own records, never reported to anywhere like Cocorahs, NWS Co-op/spotters, etc. Thought about it plenty but never pulled the trigger. I only had 3.5" but I'm like 4 miles SSE of town at a very low spot, whereas I suspect that person is somewhere well north of town more towards the Manheim area. I believe they did a bit better with the totals up that way, they usually do. I take it the Gap report is you?
  14. I’m right there with you at 14:1, measured .25” liquid off of my 3.5” snow total.
  15. Seems like you both got nearly an inch more than I did down here in the "valley".
  16. Snow has let up here, just some very light intermittent sleet falling. Looks like an event total of 3.5". Temp up to 36, roads should be fine later this afternoon.
  17. Added 1.2" in the last hour, total of 3.0" so far. Heavy snow continues but my temp is up to 34 hmmmmmmm
  18. 10:30am OBS: 32/25 heavy snow continues with vis at or just below 1/4 mile, 1.8" has fallen.
  19. Heavy snow here. The Amish farm out back has disappeared so visibility must be <1/4 mile. Good times.
  20. Sitting at 32/21. Very light snow has just commenced here. Should be a fun couple of hours.
  21. It’s saying I cant post a photo from my phone bc its too big? 1.95MB limit or something. Im new to this forum anyone have any advice?
  22. Update from up here in the Poconos at 2,000 ft: It has not stopped snowing for one second since we arrived yesterday afternoon. Hard to say what has fallen but gotta be at least 6” on top of the already wicked snowpack. Lake completely frozen over. Winter wonderland up here.
  23. Poconos travel update: 222 in Lancaster was fine but in Berks Co it remains untouched. Multiple vehicles off the road. Precip has stopped. Onward.
